Upgrading 16 GB to 32 GB on Dell G7 7500.

Hi, I'm planning to upgrade my laptop's RAM to 32 GB.

Currently, my laptop has two RAM sticks installed, with specifications indicating DDR4-2933 RAM type. However, I'm unable to find RAM with a speed of 2933 MHz in the market. Instead, I've come across RAM with a speed of 3200 MHz.

My primary queries are as follows:

  1. Can I safely use a combination of a 3200 MHz RAM stick and a 2933 MHz RAM stick simultaneously?

  2. Alternatively, is it feasible to use a 3200 MHz RAM stick alone on my laptop??

I greatly appreciate any advice you can offer regarding this situation. Your expertise will be invaluable in helping me make an informed decision.

DDR4 3200 that's otherwise compatible (CL-22, not low latency gaming RAM!) should downclock and work just fine.  If you want guaranteed comaptibility,

Do not purchase "gaming" RAM -- Kingston Fury, Corsair Vengeance, etc.  It is too aggressively timed and won't work with your system.  It depends on the ability to adjust memory timing at the firmware level.  Some Alienware systems have this option -- Inspiron/G series, XPS, Latitude, etc. systems do not.

Aggressively timed gaming RAM will simply result in a system that won't power up.
