XPS 13 9380 CHARGING PORTS

I'm shortly to take in the above where the user is saying both the USB-C charging ports have "worn out". Assuming the charger is working I have to consider replacing at least one port. I've seen the socket for sale but are these "tiny-soldered" onto the motherboard? Is the USB-C the only way to charge the XPS 13 9380?

Correct - the Thunderbolt ports alone accept power to the system.

Some older models had the round Dell barrel connector.  The slim newer models do not.

Yes, the ports are surface mounted on the board.  They are also mounted through multiple board layers.

And yes, the Thunderbolt ports are the only means of charging the battery.

The boards (and in many cases, entire used systems) have declined in price to the point where repairing a board will likely cost more than replacing it -- or replacing the system.

"the only means of charging the battery"

So the only means of powering the computer - even if we forget about using a battery?
