Well, open "dell quickset", in the start bar (if you don't find it just use "search"), select "game interface", then you should find the control panel for the lights. Easy, huh?

Oh, by the way...I'm french, so maybe the commands I told you about aren't exactly the same as in an english Computer.

Checkout my freeware XPSLed application yesterday I updated it to use the new Dell LightFX SDK.  I plan more additions to this in the near future.

Hello,
Can you tell me how to turn these annoying game lights off on my XPS M1710? I have tried the Dell quickset tools but they don't work.. I have even turned them off completely in the 'BIOS' yet they still remain on. This so annoying especially as I have emailed Dell support poeple several times yet no one even bothers to answer me. Me and my brother have bought 4 laptops from Dell this month alone, two of them are XPS laptops
but I have to say the sales team are complete imbeciles and the support people just don't give a about their customers at all...

If I don't get a reply soon then we will just send all 4 machines back and get a complete refund. It's a shame as I have been dealing with Dell for over 12 years now but can't get anyone on the phone that even speaks my language or manages to keeps their word.

I am now a network engineer and will be responsible for purchasing dozens and dozens of computers for the companies I will be working for. Guess who won't be getting these contracts?..

You need to put all the ed's as off.

System Fan LEDs
System Panel LEDs
System Speaker LEDs
System Touchpad LED
System LED Brightness to 0.

you can use my app as mentioned above  OR

u need to do it in two places,  BIOS for turn on,  and in windows for Desktop.

In the BIOS turn off ALL LEDS.
then in windows run Quickset -> Gaming and turn off all LEDs.

cheers

Hey nic wilson, whats up with lightfx changing my core clock speeds? How in blazes does that work? Seriously, the FSB jumps about 100Mhz when the Dell Quickset LightFX winamp plugin is active.
here's some info of before lightfx plugin for winamp is activated...seems normal.

So, according to this, memory speed increased, FSB went to 830ishMHz compared to 666, and it almost became a 3Ghz dual-core. Wow nice increase, but HOW THE HECK COULD LIGHTFX overclock my computer?? Im gonna test it to see if it actually did something.
Thanks so much!

Oh and also, this only occurs when the mucis is playing for the plugin, aka lights are flashing to music this supposed overclock occurs.

Hi,

I did not write the lightfx nor the winamp plugin so I cannot say.   It does however sound like a false reading from whatever software you are measuring it with though due to the activity of winamp.

cheers

Your tip works great - thanks!
Why couldn't Dell have supplied this info someplace? I searched all over and couldn't find it.

I found out what my problem with turning those lights off was. The light panel on the lid was broken an had to be changed and replaced physically.

Sheesh after all that... :(
