Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook L321X (Memory not upgradeable?)
I noticed that the max memory for the XPS 13 (L321X) is 4GB, and that the memory is soldered onto the motherboard. Is this true? Why do this? I was looking forward to upgrading to 8 GB or 16 GB.

Very few ultrabooks have upgradeable RAM - this one does not.
The slim form factor demands low-profile parts - that means the RAM and CPU are both hard soldered to the mainboard. The other major advantages for the system vendors are cheaper production costs and built-in obsolescence (thanks, Apple, for originating that!).

Thank you ejn63. It is disappointing, but I understand.

Not the system memory, no. SD cards are for storage - not for system RAM use.

I have a 3-year old XPS13 (service tag #67NG1W1). Can the memory be added to, like with a SD card or something?
