battery health

I use Lenovo and Dell laptops predominately. Usually as these, while expensive, last much longer. I use a Lenovo 135W PSU: Part number: SA10R16963, FRU: 5A10W86296.

Now most leave their machine plugged in 24/7 which is not a good idea for battery health. Windows is also culpable for bad battery management. Ideally a battery will last longer of it is discharged and recharged similar to mobile phones. This can more than double the service life of the battery. My Apple watch is 4 years old and it still works fine.

Lithium ion batteries are expensive to replace Prices are upwards of $50 and can be over $100 for some models.

So the firmware IUEFI needs more battery functionality such as scheduled charging and wait for battery charge to fall to some value such as 18% before charging.

We recently updated our BIOS settings to set power management to be primary A/C Power. Once the battery hits a certain charge, it will disconnect the battery and only use the power from the charger or dock.

Charging to 80% like can be done with Iphones would go far to extending battery life.
