Inquiry about Dell Latitude 7214 and Hard Drive Compatibility
Hello all,
I've recently come into ownership of a Dell Latitude 7214 Extreme Rugged laptop.
However, the laptop did not have any hard drive pre-installed, so I've been looking on how to install one. It appears that, by the User's Manual, installation and removal can be done through its side slot (I believe, if I'm wrong, please correct me).
However, after taking a look at various prior posts, I find myself confused about what hard drives I can actually insert inside directly, what hard drives need a caddy, and how to proceed in installation. I would prefer using an SSD over an HDD, but I am unsure about what drives work.

The 7214 rugged extreme can support M.2 SATA solid state drive https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/latitude-12-7214-2-in-1-laptop/7214_om/hard-drive-options?guid=guid-d0caa896-3a75-4893-b138-82922baef35d&lang=en-us

Yes, you do need an M.2 SATA SSD carrier to install into the slot, Dell part 0693VV. See link below for example https://www.ebay.com/p/23023378827
Your 7214 does not support NVMe SSD. The little one 7212 does.

@Chino de Oro
I read in previous posts that you may need a caddy or something for these, which I didn't understand fully. Can you elaborate on if that is needed?
Also, is no NVME technology compatible?
Thanks!
