Logitech headset not working after Audio driver update
Latitude 5420 and Logitech H340 have been working happily together since purchase. Last week the Dell Update app installed a new BIOS firmware (1.8.0) and Realtek Audio Driver (6.0.9163.1). After that, my laptop would crash when trying to do anything with sound/mic - eg start a Zoom meeting.
Its very annoying and even installing previous version of Audio Driver ( 6.0.9126.1) didn't solve it. Now, with only a mouse and the headset plugged in, I get no sound from the headset, even the ping from using the volume slider.
Troubleshooting with win10 doesn't help.
Anyone else have this?

I am experiencing the same issue with the USB mic. 6.0.9247.1, A09 audio works fine, except for that mic issue. I rolled back to 6.0.9163.1 and it seems to be working (for now). However, my company does not allow me to disable automatic driver updates, so I have to keep rolling back. Hopefully a new driver version comes out to resolve all these issues.

Did any of you have any joy in getting this sorted? Dell support has me running around trying various fixes because it's clear they're not competent enough to work out how they created this issue with their BIOS and/or audio update. They now say I must reinstall my OS. Crazy that their support has dropped to such low levels.

I don't know how many users reported this issue to me already. I had lost count. During this pandemic, whereby WFH and headset is a must, this issue had caused business revenue lost.
I've given up on Dell Tech Support, like what the previous guy said, got me running around trying various fixes that won't work, most likely just to buy time for the engineer to sort this out.
How long we're going to wait for the resolution, that's the real question. And no, I won't reinstall my Operating System. I can rollback the audio drivers (which didn't help at all), but not the BIOS.

I've had exactly the same experience. They have me running around with various useless fixes which I know won't work even before trying them. They keep saying I must reinstall my OS! What a joke. Dell really has fallen apart.

All Dell knows how to do is direct one to the OS reinstallation instructions. These people know nothing. A sad day for Dell. Completely useless. I wonder what Michael Dell would think of this.

I am having a similar issue. I have 34 Dell Latitude 5420 laptops at my school. When I plug in my ATR-2100 USB microphone or a UGREEN USB Audio Adapter, the audio doesn't work and the sound control panel in Windows freezes up and goes to ''not responding."
This is causing issues for multiple teachers. I just updated my Latitude 5420 to the 1.11.2 BIOS update that came out on August 31, 2021. This did not fix the issue.

Hello - yes having the exact same issue here.
I manage a fleet of Dell Latitude 5420's (about 30+) for an office here and since the last firmware/bios update the exact same thing has been happening with USB headsets!
The audio doesn't work and the sound control panel in Windows freezes up and goes to ''not responding."
Or the microphone simply does not work anymore.
I have tried re-imaging, removing drivers, re-installing drivers and this issue still occurs!
DELL PLEASE FIX THIS

Getting the same issue here as well with the Logitech H340 headset on a Dell Latitude 5240 laptop. The laptop can recognise the headset on Windows 10 but it cannot play anything through the headphones or the microphone does not work in Windows. Also tried using Microsoft Teams and it recognises the device but says it is not working and the test calls cannot find a speaker or microphone. This is a major problem that only appears with this Dell laptop (other laptops work fine with the headset) so Dell really needs to get a fix out soon for this.

OK an update to my last post, I updated all the drivers and BIOS to the latest version as recommended by Dell and this did not fix the issue. I then decided to uninstall the latest Audio driver version (vA05 from June 2021) and reinstall a previous version (vA02 from April 2021). After this version was installed and the laptop rebooted the headsets all worked fine. This proves that the issue is with the latest Audio driver update from Dell that they need to fix, however in the meantime I would recommend that anyone that has this issue tries installing the previous A02 version as that should help...

I was able to get my support ticket moved up the chain. The agent installed these two audio drivers from directly from the Dell website, rather than relying on Dell Command Update. You would think they would be the same, but apparently not. That fixed it on one computer, but I haven't been able to determine if both need the update, or just one of the two.
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=kk9h4&oscode=wt64a&productcode=latitude-5420-laptop
Waves MaxxAudio Pro Application: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=mt7rr&oscode=wt64a&productcode=latitude-5420-laptop
Notice that the second one is listed as an application, rather than a driver. Other Dell laptops have had this pre-installed, but the Latitude 5420s have not. Instead, the 5420s have "Dell Optimizer" installed.

I just received more feedback from Dell on this issue, and they've offered me a driver to fix this issue, but only if I first sign an NDA! I just don't understand how they can run an organisation like this. Just too terrible.
@dnewby I'll try look for and try this driver update, but I recall trying earlier drivers without success.
@kwilcox93. After applying the August 31st BIOS update (which I had to find myself after Dell couldn't direct me to it), a Microsoft USB headset started working on my PC, but not yet my Logitech. So something is happening, but certainly not fast enough!

I can confirm that I'm seeing this on 2 of our 15~ Latitude 5420's. One of them I just flattened and re-installed the OS.. seems to work now. The other laptop now has the issue and it has been freshly built so I do not want to have to re-image every time this issue crops up.
The responses to this thread is quite concerning re. NDAs and the level of support Dell are providing. Will try a few steps from other posters and report back either way.

These steps worked for me. Installed the Realtek driver first, and then the Waves software. User rebooted and boom - working headsets.
Thank you very much for reporting this back to the community, much appreciated.
