Docking station D1000 with Ubuntu on XPS13

When I purchased the XPS developer edition I was looking as well for a docking station especially having support for an external screen. D1000 was recommended (Using USB 3).

While network and mouse are working I can't make the screen work. It seems that the drivers included in Ubuntu 14.04 (Factory install) don't support the D1000. The Display Link website (chipset used in the D1000) say that the Linux drivers are developed by the community but I didn't find any.

My question is if the D1000 is officially supported for the XPS 13 developer edition and if yes where I could get the display drivers.

Thanks

The driver isn't included in Ubuntu. You can download the driver here: displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu

Do you know if it will be included in future versions of Ubuntu? If it is proprietary perhaps it could show up under Additional drivers? Is this something that Dell could help coordinate (i.e. displaylink meet Canonical).
