Ubuntu Server on Edge Gateway 3002

Hello everyone.

I'm currently trying to upgrade the OS in an Edge Gateway 3002 and I haven't had much success up to this point. The gateway came with Ubuntu Core 16 but I'd need to install Ubuntu Server 18.

Ubuntu Server is actually an option in the Dell Store during the gateway configuration phase, but I can't seem to find any reference in the manual on how to install a new OS on an already existing gateway.

Could anyone point me in the right direction? Any help would me much appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm working through the exact same issue. We are evaluating the 3002 unit for possible usage, and we're looking to evaluate both the Ubuntu Core and Server options.  The Dell Recovery page is showing only Ubuntu Core with our service tag; I've spoken with two levels of engineering, and they are saying they won't provide the Ubuntu Server image, and that if I want an unsupported configuration, I can install any OS I'd like.

My response is that I'm simply looking (for eval reasons) for the media for the Ubuntu Server installation that would have come bundled with the device had I ordered it preinstalled.  They are refusing to provide; I'm currently being routed back to sales to see if anything can be done there.

The real problem here is that Dell isn't making their installation images available for anyone outside their original purchased version.  This is a little frustrating, given that I'm simply trying to evaluate both versions, and I'm simply asking for the media, and it's pretty much MADE of freely available software.  I could certainly attempt to install directly from Ubuntu, but I don't know what tweaks / driver changes / etc. are part of the official Dell distro.

Let me know if you hear any differently.

In our case, Dell has redirected us to the third-party distributor that we purchased the gateway from. We're currently waiting for a definite answer. I'm not hoping for much, given their initial reticence to provide what is basically a free Linux image.

We'd even understand if there was some kind of upgrade fee involved in the process as long as it was reasonable. Although the motivation behind Dell's refusal doesn't seem to be based on cost.

Did you get any update there? I struggle to get rid the ubuntu core from my gateway and flashing it with own system image. Staying with core is no go for us and I believe most of OEM cases.
