Digital Optical Audio vs USB
Hello everyone,
I'm using an Alienware X51 R2 (latest version). I'm using it for mostly gaming. I notice that it has a digital optical audio port which i rarely find anywhere.
Now, I have a gaming headset which offers two type of connection: USB and Digital Optical Output Audio. At the moment, I don't have any digital optical cable yet. I wonder if there's any difference between using a USB and a digital optical cable? Would it improve my audio for gaming? Also, I found a software called Alienware Audio which i suppose it will optimizes my audio?
Anyway, what do you guys think? Should I invest couple extra bucks to buy an optical cable?
Thanks :)

Sure, you can get the cable and try it. In that config, it will be using your Sound Card.
Right now, using the USB ... it's likely the only connection the USB Headset has to the system. That means you are using the "sound card" or circuit in the Headset ... the x51-R2 sound card is not being used.
If you have additional questions, be sure to post the exact model of Gaming Headset you have.
