Outputting UE when I press U?

My keyboard on my newly arrived alienware 15 r3 is pressing ue when I press u and when I press e. When I press g it seems to open to a new tab in Edge. Is this a hardware fault. Will I need to return it?

It's actually much worse than I thought. It's several keys. I have contacted support for a hardware maintenance request as this clearly a quality control issue.

Hi,

It does sound like a hardware problem with the keyboard. If you need further assistance, please send me your Service Tag in a PM.

@Hey Rodrigo,

I appreciate you getting back to me. The laptop has been fantastic in every way except for the issue with the joined key outputs. It affects several keys unfortunately. I have a ticket open with dell support (the reference no. 950791565).

A technician was sent out to check the laptop and ended up replacing the keyboard, but the issue persists. I had informed the technician that the issue was likely the keyboard connector or the pins which needed to be looked at as the joined keys is really the signal arcing from adjoining pins. I've taken the following steps so far to test the issue.

1. Reinstalled language packages

2. Plugged in usb keyboard to test if the issue is software related (the issue did not replicate when usb keyboard input was used indicating a hardware issue)

3. Booted to bios tested in password field (issue persists) definitely hardware

4. Replaced integrated keyboard (issue persists)

I've been talking to  ASHISH_BARIA who has requested I allow for another technician to come out to take a look as (in his words)

"However I would request you to give us one more opportunity to help you. We will ensure we send Senior Technician to check the system thoroughly and resolve the issue.

Unit replacement Request has to go through multiple screening and Approvals and may take up to 25 to 30 Working days to replace unit (if approved). Whereas, we will be able to do part replacement in 1 to 2 business day."

I'll be honest. I have worked in it my entire professional life. I've worked refurbishing pc's. This smacks of a strong-arm attempt to move me towards the easiest route for Dell.

The truth is I really like the laptop, this is a quality assurance issue, it happens, but I payed almost $3000 for this laptop which I as a consumer would expect to be working 100%. I replacement unit is the only option I see as I did not receive what I payed for offering to "repair" a new laptop instead is not an option that justifies my having to take another half-day from work.

Cheers,

Sam
