Her point was that if you installed the Chipset Driver, which is the FIRST driver you should have installed, it includes the usb.  Click on Product Support, then Downloads.

Advice?

1) Don't post repetitively because you are impatient :smileywink:

2) Don't plug your mouse into the FRONT ports.  It won't work.

3) If it's a back port, go into Device Manager and delete the ports, then reboot and let them be rediscovered. 

If that doesn't work, it's the mouse.

I only added one post, wasn't trying to seem too impatient, the first responses came a bit faster and was expecting the same. Sorry if I seemed so, just been trying to get all this stuff done on this computer for my friend and it has takena bit longer than I expected and told him it would take.

I'll try this once again.  THERE ARE NO USB DRIVERS.  None.

Once you installed the Chipset Driver, you're done.  One time.  No more. 

If you're talking about the Mouse Drivers...?

When you reinstalled XP did you do it with anything plugged into the USB ports?

I uninstalled, let it find hardware, attempted to install chipset, no go. I tried uninstalling, let it find hardware, let it search for own drivers, no go. If I searched for the drivers myself, what would the file probably be that I would need to find? ... or .... anything else I can try?

 

I understand, it's part of the chipset, No there was nothing plugged into the usb when installing windows. the mouse is plug and play, it works fine on both other computers. When I open device manager it shows the problem with the usb controller. Also, I plugged in a 128mb uhhh, memory card thingy, and it is showing that the usb port is low speed (1.1). Eh, this thing is driving me insane.

I thought I downloaded and installed it from there, maybe it was the wrong one. I'll have to try again.

When you're adding to a post you just made, click on Message Options, then Edit. 

Your 1.1 comment gave the answer.  You haven't yet run Windows Update.  Run it over and over until none are left.  Then, if needed, delete USB drivers and reboot.

I beg to differ, sir. ALL devices whether internal or external have drivers. You even say so yourself with the "Chipset Driver" comment. Hense the words "CHIPSET"(USB) and "DRIVER"(driver). You want proof? Right click on ANY sub heading for a device in Device Manager. You will see the words "Update Driver...". 

I have completed the above Chipset Driver install and my USB controller is still looking for a "driver". So, yes more! 

Instead of demeaning people, try to help them. A simple link to said driver will be sufficient.
