Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum (DCF).
You can reinstall the Dell application(s)from the Dell backups CD or find that shortcut in the start up group and delete it.
* Click Start- Run
* Type MSCONFIG [press the Enter key]
* Insert the dot to Normal Startup
* Click Apply- OK (Don't restart the system)
* Right-click the [Start] button
* Left-click Open
* Double-click Programs
* Double-click Startup (Everything you see in the start up group is actually running all the time, which just takes away from your resources)
* Move ALL the icons in the Startup box to the desktop. Here is how too move the icons:
* Right-click the icon [hold the button down]
* Drag the icon out of the Start Up box
* Let go on the desktop
* Left-click "Move Here")
* After you have moved all the icons onto the desktop, close all the boxes
* Click Start- Shutdown- Restart- OK or Click Start- Turn Off Computer- Restart
I tried removing the items from the start up folder (as you suggested)... Didn't work. So I pulled out my Dell Support CD's and attempted to re-install the Notify Alert application. I then rebooted and didn't see the message pop up this time. However, about 3 hours later, there it was...
What problems might occur if I completely remove the C:\Program Files\Dell\Support\Alert\bin directory?
I have the same problem. In addition, I get the same message when attempting other functions related to Dell programs. For instance from "Start -> Dell Solution Center -> My Dell -> My Computer Information" I get them same error in "ClientApplicationFramework.exe" (same with "Start -> Dell Solution Center -> Support -> Dell Support"). Interesting enough, this all started after I installed the "RPC Patch" from Microsoft that prevents the latest virus (commonly referred to as the W32.Blaster.Worm). I suspect the patch changed something in the Remote Procedure Call that these Dell programs no longer like. Any thoughts from Dell???
I'm glad I found this thread. I've gone over my system several times trying to find what Notifyalert might be. The error in my case seems to have started after I downloaded the MS patch. Hope someone comes up with a Dell patch.
Having same problem. Noticed that if I click on Dell Support icon, I get warning that the MS .Net framework runtime has not been installed. Aftner noticing that this was causing horrendous startup time for my machine, I uninstalled it. Perhaps that is the cause. In any case, I would rather get the warning than the horrendous startup time. If anyone figures this out, please post. This is annyoing to say the least after having my pc only a week.
I
am getting that annyoing NotifyAlert.exe message too. I'm getting a second message as well, though I don't remember it off the top of my head. I find it interesting that it's taking Dell so long to respond with a fix. I would love to have a response quickly on this issue, as it's been driving me nuts (and apparently a lot of other people too)!
Well, since I couldn't get any answers from Dell (either from this forum or while talking to them on the phone), I simply uninstalled the Dell Support package... So far I have not seen the "NotifyAlert.exe" error message. It would be nice to re-install this program, but since the MS Patch (remember Microsoft does it better) prevents this from working, re-installing it isn't going to help until an update from Dell fixes the MS bug...
I received a response back from Dell instructing me to uninstall the Dell support software (like others on this thread have done) and re-install it. However, when I attempt the uninstall I get a similar error message to what NotifyAlert.exe puts out from a process called MSIxx.tmp where 'xx' is a 1 or 2 character hex (0-9, A-F) string (ie. MSI6.tmp or MSI2C.tmp). I am unable to uninstall the Dell support software. I downloaded the Dell support 2.0 software from the Dell download page and ran it. When it runs, it attempts to uninstall the Dell support software first and gets the same error. I don't know whether it is still related to Dell software but I was able to uninstall another software package without any problem. I have requested information from Dell on how to uninstall the software by other means (ie. manually). Does anyone know how to uninstall the Dell support software without going through the "Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs ->" etc.?
Maybe try uninstalling the program (through the control panel, add/ delete programs routine) but do it while in safe mode. In safe mode, you are on as administrator (even on Home edition) and minimal drivers/apps are running. Worth a try. Not sure how to start your machine in safe mode but it's probably in your manual.
Well, I have good news (at least for me). I found that I was getting the same abend with some Microsoft Management Console functions (performance monitor) & the Microsoft MSI Installer as I was getting with NotifyAlert and other Dell Support applications. It occurred to me that one common denominator might be the Windows .NET framework. I uninstalled .NET framework, downloaded .NET framework 1.1 (why not upgrade at the same time), and installed .NET framework 1.1. I was then able to run the performance monitor and all the Dell Support applications. I then downloaded (from Dell) the Dell Support applications 2.0 and installed it (for me, running the install of Dell Support applications 2.0 the first time just uninstalled the current Dell Support applications and I had to run it the second time to install Dell Support applications 2.0). Dell Support applications also has some nice things I never noticed before like letting me know what's going on as it gathers information, goes off to run something in the background, etc.
Anyway, I don't know what clobbered my .NET framework. I thought it was the MS Blaster patch but I also installed some Windows XP updates about that same timeframe too (perhaps it is just some weird thing happening to several Windows XP machines in the past few days - tongue-in-cheek). At any rate, Dell's NotifyAlert brought it to the surface.

Hello,
I have also experienced the NotifyAlert.exe Application Error message when I get to my PC in the morning. I have Windows XP Pro.
What does this program do?
Thanks,
