"unmountable boot volume" Help me!

I have a Dell 8400 with A03 Bios dated 10-11-04. When I tried to start my computer this morning, I received the message "unmountable boot volume." I have never had any problems with this computer before. I tried changing the boot sequence to skip USB drives, but this did not help.

I was unable to start in safe mode. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the assistance.

I have Windows XP. I searched the board, and will try booting from the XP Professional CD. If it doesn't help, I will post again. TIA

The problem is related to the hard drive and not the system's BIOS.  Your posting in the Software - Windows XP forum should produce some responses on how to correct the problem.
