It's probably PC 100. My XPST450 is. Go to the link below and fill in the blanks. It'll tell you exactly what you need.

The best primer on memory and the best place to buy is http://www.crucial.com. They guarantee it will work and have ridiculously low prices.

Thanks for the info. Now, can I just remove the existing one and replace it with a new one? Or, is it better to just add it to one of the open slots? (If I purchase a 256 and add it next to my 128, will I effectively have 384MB?)

I'll second Mary, go with crucial.

Crucial produces some of Dell's memory (at least it did in the case of the stuff I just bought for a Dimension XPST450 and an I3800). For 128MB sticks for an XPST500, Dell's price for the same product (with the same warranty as Crucial's) is actually lower to begin with. There's also a 20% price break for memory purchased on line from Dell right now. I'm no math whiz, but I think that it would be cheaper (at least for the 128MB modules) to get it from Dell. If you want a 256MB module, Dell's price looks to be a bit more, even after applying the discount. All depends on what you want.

I just purchased more memory from Dell today, and did not get a 20% discount. How come? I ask for it and he said there was none on now? I have a Demension4100 with 128 memory !!!!!

If you ordered it over the phone, that's why. The promotion is for on line orders.

Yes, just add new ram to open slot. Then you'll get combined total Ram of both chips. You are probably running 100 Mhz SDRAM. Should have total of 3 memory slots on your mother board. Can also use 133 Mhz SDRAM, but computer will only be able to utilize the 100 Mhz bandwidth.
Make sure to align the notch tabs to insure correct position for the ram to install.
