ZoneAlarm & XP

I have used ZoneAlarm (shareware) on a PC with WinXP Home for about two weeks now and have had no problems. I have a cable modem connected to RoadRunner. I do a fair amount of browsing and some online gaming. Also, I have a number of applications (including XP itself) that want to connect to the Internet, and after giving them permission to get through ZoneAlarm, they seem to work fine.

Did you disable the XP firewall or are they working in harmony? Zone Alarm is highly rated & I got use to it. Not sure about the XP firewall.

Disable the XP firewall after downloading and installing the latest ZoneAlarm release...

I don't know if this applies, but be very careful with Zone Alarm if you put a password on it. I don't remember giving it a password except when I downloaded it (free version). To make a long story short, it took over, I could not make any adjustments. It acted like a system administrator and would not even allow me to delete it in Add/Remove programs. I was able to do a system restore and installed Norton. Zone alarm was able to guide me to an involved solution that went into going into safe mode and deleting some internet log files. I'm leery of ever trying Zone Alarm again, because the pertinent files never really get deleted. Until the password problem it worked fine for me.
