1749 will not post while power cord plugged in; issue resolved

Hey everyone. My dad recently purchased a Studio 1749 laptop (core i3 processor, integrated graphics, 4gigs of RAM etc). He has a strange issue with the laptop. Whenever the power cord is plugged in, the laptop will not POST. The lights for the buttons that control the audio and etc light up, and then it cuts off. He sent the first one he purchased back to Dell, and then sent him another one, and it is still having the same issue. He also had the mobo and power supply replaced in the first one and it is still had the same issue. Is anyone aware of any BIOS defect or anything at all that can help, short of getting a completely different model altogether? Thanks.

Hmm. That is problem that has to be specific to the board. My only suggestions would be to look through the bios options and change anything dealing with power that may seem out of place. Or to update the bios if there is an upgrade available already. If neither can be done then just got a new laptop all together. It could be that since the core i3 is fairly new that they have not worked out all the kinks for that particular laptop. Sad situation but every company has em i guess.

Try not having the battery in while starting it. Thats the best I can give you now. I have never heard of a laptop not going into post when plugged in my 10 years doing this. It will be hard to get dell to change your laptop, and even then it will likely be a refurbished computer.

Well, the laptop has the latest BIOS so we can't do anything about that. I believe my dad already checked through the BIOS to see if there was anything out of the ordinary and there didn't appear to be. Thanks for your help though. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue. I can't seem to find anything online about it.

Ok. So it turns out that my dad was holding the power button in until the fans started running and the lights started lighting up, and for some reason the laptop just doesn't like that so it turned off:emotion-2: I pressed the button in and immediately let it go and it worked fine, so there is no longer an issue. He swears up and down that's how he turned his older Dell laptop on, and I told him that it's not that laptop and he has to treat it differently :emotion-2: Thanks for your assistance anyway.
