First charge for dell replacement battery

I bought a replacement battery for my dell Inspiron 7520. I cant find any information on how long should I charge the battery for the first time. There are some sites that say if the battery came in the laptop then you should simply charge it to full. However, if the battery came separately there are cases where the battery was stored in the warehouse for some time. As such, I have to discharge it completely and then charge it to full for 3 times.

Can anyone from Dell or experienced users give a more verifiable answer? Thanks

Hi Dinpm,

It is recommended to fully charge the battery. Please refer to the Battery FAQ's. This should give an insight on using the battery. Here is the link http://dell.to/w0gepP

You can visit the links mentioned below for more tips on extending the battery life:

Lithium batteries DO NOT need to be discharged completely to allow for a full recharge. They do not have the memory problems associated with Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries. The only time to do a deep discharge is if the battery projected run time is very different from the actual; the battery circuity can be recalibrated this way. This is a rear event. Deep discharges reduce the life time of Lithium batteries. Put the battery in, let it charge, and then leave it in. There is no benefit of removing the battery when it's fully charged. This is a myth. Also, if possible, try to not use a battery below 35% to get a long life. If your use pattern requires deeper discharges, the battery will not last as long. Currently, third party batteries are reliable, and cost a fraction of that of an OEM battery.

Hi,

For how long do we need to charge a new Dell Laptop battery for the first time? Like for how many hours? Some say 12hrs, 24hrs etc. Also, for how long do we need to do other consecutive recharges? For the first time, do we need to discharge the existing power in the battery and then do a full recharge or simply charge it without doing a discharge? I have just purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3521 Laptop and haven't yet used it because of all these doubts. Please help. Thanks. Any other information and tips will be appreciated.

Plug it in and leave it plugged in when not going portable. You can not damage the battery by leaving it charge. The battery circuity controls the charging.

How far does the Dell Inspiron 15 3521lid tilt back? I recently purchased one and was trying to see how far and uptil what angle does the lid actually tilt. I tilted it back all the way till I could tilt no more and brought it back to its original position. Does this harm the Laptop in any way? Please let me know as I am restless and uneasy after having done it. It's a brand new laptop and I'm worried. Thanks.
