Frying an egg on C610

I COULD fry an egg on my C610.
When on AC my machine is running at steady 1200MHz and it gets hotter and hotter...
The mainboard fan NEVER starts to run and my Harddisk is close to overheat (55°C).
fanGUI does not work here. I am convinced it has to do with the A08 BIOS.

What am i supposed to do?????

well, you made it a day without any intelligent answers so, here i come :

You ask what you are supposed to do, well, I suggest you run the Diagnostics file on the Dell system CD FIRST. Second call Dell.....

(what I would be doing...is below)
If you are convinced it is the BIOS then reflash it with another version. I would NOT be running it untill it was right either...and by now, I would have been into it with a meter on those fans.

How much skill/knowledge do you have to work with?

The hardware is fine.
It is the BIOS (I tried the older A07 Version) but i cannot go further back than this version due to bug fixes in versions A07 and above.

The problem seems to appear only when my C610 is docked in the C/Dock2.

The fans are spinning at the beginning but they fail to spin up after some time has passed (30-60 minutes). You can hear the CPU fan starting to spin up over and over again...

Playing Neverwinter Nights seems to be perfect a perfect "application" to reproduce the problem.

My workaround now is not to use the dockingstation.

I did not call support now since i do not believe that would bring me any benefit.

If it is the BIOS, then Dell needs to know about it. Please call them and let them know. I would be very interested, since I just upgraded several systems to A08. If that's having a problem, I'll downgrade them.

Thanks,
Erick

My C610 also experiences the same problem.  (Overheats when docked in the C/Dock II)  I'll keep ya posted as I try different things.

Why don't you try the A16 BIOS for starters. I have had 3 C610's and have never had a problem with heat, of course my fans work but they only come on when I use the unit heavily. Then run the diagnostic program and run a fan check. I also use i8kfanGUI and it works fine on my C610's. I suspect either both fans are dead or the thermal switch to turn them on is dead.

I updated my BIOS to A16 yesterday afternoon. I ran my C610 all day today with out making any other changes. I saw no difference in temperature. I ran the fan diagnostics that came with the PC and the fans both turned on high, on low and off properly. So the fans work, its something else that is preventing them from turning on. I did download and install the software that Ed C recomended and it works great. Immediately I saw my temp drop from 180 F to around 105 F. Thanks for the SW link Ed C.
