Password Issue After Installing New Hard Drive
I was given an older Dell laptop (Latitude D600) which would boot up to BIOS but would not load Windows XP. It seemed to be an issue with a bad HDD so I purchased a used but tested Toshiba HDD with Windows XP, Service Pack 3 on eBay. After installing the new HDD I now get a message on start up saying "This computer system, #GC93T21-595B, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password."
I do not have a password and this system had never been password protected. I reinstalled teh old HDD to see if I could boot up to BIOS and now I get the exact same message when the system powers up.
Any suggestions, I would hate to trash the pc. Thanks!

The Uninvited1,
First, edit your post. Remove the seven characters before "-595B". That is your system's Service Tag. It is a violation of the Dell Community Forum to give Service Tag numbers in a post.
No need to trash the Latitude D600. If the person who gave you the laptop was the original owner, then you need to contact him/her and fill out a Transfer of Ownership here: www.dell.com/.../IdentifySystem
You will need information from the original owner to complete this process.
After you transfer ownership, you can contact Dell directly for assistance in removing the password.
