Studio 1558 No Wireless Connection

Please check in safe mode with networking if you are able to connect to wireless network.

To check in safe mode with networking follow the below steps:

1. Restart the computer.
2. Keep tapping F8 on the Dell Logo Screen.
3. Once the computer enters Advanced Boot Option, select Safe Mode with Networking.
4. Press Enter.

Check if the computer is doing the same thing in safe mode with networking.

If you are able to go online using the wireless network in safe mode with networking reboot the computer normally and run MS fixit. Use this link: http://bit.ly/HPsyBy

Click the link above and select Run now.

If the issue persists, please check in device manager if the WLAN card is detected in device manager and has any exclamation mark on it.

Procedure to navigate to device manager:

1. Click “Start”.
2. Type “Device Manager” in the search box.
3. Select “Device Manager “in the list.
4. Click the “Network Adapters”.

If there are any alerts, install the right WLAN Network card drivers from the Resource Dvd which was shipped along with the computer. If you do not have the Resource Dvd, follow the below mentioned steps to download the wireless card drivers:

1. Visit the following website: http://dell.to/17F08dH
2. Enter the Service tag of the computer in the box provided and click “Submit”.
3. In the next page, click drop down arrow to select the Operating System which is installed in the computer.
4. Under category Network, select the wireless network drivers accordingly and click “Download File” and save the file on desktop.
5. Run the downloaded file and restart the system.
6. Try connecting to the wireless network.

Hi - Thanks for responding. I started the computer in safe mode, and had no luck. I then rebooted and opened the Device Manager. Under Network Adapters, I see: Intel Centrino WiMax 6250 and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I do not see a WLAN card, but under "Other Devices" it says "Network Controller" and there is an exclamation mark next to this.

I tried to download a driver from the Resource DVD, but ran into some problems. It lists two WLAN drivers, but neither would install on my computer. When I tried to install them, I got an error message that said "No compatible hardware found."

Click the link select download file and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation. Restart the computer and check in Device manager if the drivers are installed for WLAN card. Try connecting to wireless network and check.

If the above steps do not help, open “Device manager” window, select the “Other device”, right click “Network Controller” listed under Other devices, click “Properties”, select “Details” tab, click the dropdown menu under “Property” and select “Hardware Ids”, please take a screen shot and post it in the reply so that I can search for the right drivers.
