System Exchange Im confused

i have a inspiron 8600 i have had nothing but problems sense i have gotten the thing and so after calling them and complaning, because a tech support lady had me take out my opr. system and them she told me she had to go her shift was over, and thank you for choosing dell!!! click .. and when i spoke with some one to reminstall it it left me with 2 opr systems AAHhh that one of 22 things not kidding!! that wrong..but they said that they would do a system exchange for a newer model sense they didnt make mine any more, and the guy could not tell me what kind! but it would take up to 15 days to get a proved. so the tech mangt i spoke with said that he took care of all of the mess and he emailed the dispatch to get going on it, and i asked him to email me somthing so i had a statement saying that what they were doing. He said ok well i never got one from him and when i called back to find out something (the same day to see) the person said that there was nothing in the log stating that there was a system exchange said anywhere in that days log.... also siad that dell dont do system exchanges. and that it was a miss understanding my part... so i guess i kinda dont trust anyone from dell after being lied to so many times does anyone think i have something to worrie about? or do anythink he for got to log it in...thanks for the help if anyone can help me!!! payton

This is a user to user forum.  System exchanges are few and far between.  Dell will do exchanges if they find that it is under warranty and hardware cannot be fixed, but usually it is repaired. If you have an issue and want help with it then you might want to give more details and maybe someone might be able to respond with some assistance.

Dont worry.. I own a Inspiron 5150, and I have been plagued with hard drive problems ever since I replaced the first one. Every time my computer drops a hard drive they send me a refurbished one, and mind you I have a 4 year complete coverage and extended warranty package. Now my system has permanently crashed with loss sectors on the hard drive and the ram chips are finally going out, and I have been on hold waiting for tech support for hours now. Dell doesn't do system exchanges.. They either repair whats broken or send refurbished replacement parts that are total junk. This is seriously the last Dell piece of junk I am ever buying.

Dell does do system exchanges.. it sounds like you talked to some bad apples in the tech support department. Your best bet is to call back and hope to talk to a good technician. Also, is it getting too hot to touch or burning you? If it is the system may be dangerous to use and be a reason for an exchange.

Heat problems can be caused by "going bad" processors that have to work overtime to properly work and causes extra heat, OR, you need a replacement heatsink, the fans attached to them that get rid of the heat generally die out (fans like many other components including HD's have RPM lifespans), sooner then any other component may I point out, maybe the fan is slower then when you bought the system (dieing) and its no longer doing its job at ridding heat from the system... DELL DOES DO SYSTEM EXCHANGES, but only after a tech has been out to your house and replaced all the parts believed to cause the problem your having... So keep nagging them, have them send a tech, and make sure the tech keeps at it (ordering parts etc) until he fixes the problem, if he deems he can't, he may request a replacement, at which time you are more likely of receiving one..

Did you request a tech come out and replace necessary components to fix the heat problem?

Well, to be honest (note that I am a tech for dell), that the refurbished systems really are GOOD QUALITY. More often then not, they fix ALL blemishes (replace all system plastics) and make sure the motherboard is new, and all components, but they cannot sell it as new... Just like the Dell Outlet store sells no NEW computers, only "previously ordered new"... Cause someones touched it, they have to re-label it.. I've had 2 clients sent "exchanged" systems, and they look, work and feel like a new machine, and are covered by the same warranty as your primary system... PLEASE do not be discouraged to accept a refurbished, they really are tested and conform to the same standards as the new systems.. ALSO; if they said they'd have someone call you, thats odd... Most of the time if they are going to send you a tech they give you a DPS or DISPATCH # that you can use to follow up on a tech's whereabouts on the scheduled day of service (usually next day)...

Payton25,

I am sorry if anyone at Dell hung up on you.  If you problem was documented before the end of your warranty, then it should be possible to get the system serviced, even if the warranty expires.

If you will add your Service Tag number to your forum profile, I will take a look at your case and see if there is anything I can do to help.

You can also try the Unresolved Issues < ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> form.  This goes to a completely different group.  They will resolve your issue.
