Alps touchpad settings has a "Tapping" checkbox which would prevent clicks being sent through it; that can be found, appropriately enough, in the Touchpad section of the Mouse control panel. If you have Synaptics instead I believe it does too, but I haven't had that kind since March. Oh wait, if I remember right the more recent Synaptics drivers might have a kind of link method for going through settings so someone else needs to explain where the setting is at. Or try Help in there, if possible, and maybe look for tapping or tap.

I have the Synaptics touch pad V 7.5.7 and it does not seem to have the tap option in the driver properties.

I may be missing something, but I can not find the solution at the Synaptics site and Dell has not answered yet.

Thanks again

Just to try and help others who are also complaining about the touchpad. I opened mouse properties in control panel this AM and the verion of my driver was changed from 7.5.7 to 5.9 which has the ability to disable the touchpad. Now that is good but I am not sure that I  know how it was possible for Dell to change that driver without my permission. I did click a link today to check for updated drivers at Dell but it said  "No updates available."

Is it possible to disable the touchpad and still use a mouse? I own an Inspiron 4100 (XP home) with a "crazy" pointer. I have tried for a while to solve the problem, but I am giving up and want to use the mouse only. Unfortunately, it seems to be the same drivers for the touchpad & the mouse

Thanks
