DVI problem- please help

Hi- I just bought a Dell 2007WFP moniter. At first, I set it up with the VGA cable- but then I decided to try the DVI cable as I heard that it improved video quality. I disconnected the VGA cable and plugged in the white DVI cable. I switched my moniter to DVI mode and then my moniter displayed a message saying that there was no power or signal coming from my computer.

I would really like to try the DVI cable. Would anyone please help me? Thanks in advance

If the PC is not off when you switch cables, it may not recognize the change. Otherwise, check that the connectors are clean, there are no bent pins, and they are inserted fully. Hope it's that simple.

PC off, Monitor off, Before changing connectons.

Those are not hot pluggable.

Could short something out. Monitor, video card, mobo.

Sending current without proper ground, bad and dangerous.

Thanks for your reply. When I try the DVI, my moniter displays a message which reads: entering power save. Then my moniter power button light goes from green to orange. Then my moniter displays a message which reads: no signal from computer.

Can you offer any suggestions? Thanks in adavnce

If there is no connection signal, then the monitor will go into power save right away. My 2407 does.

If it's not your DVI out from your video card, since the VGA works, then it's probably the monitor DVI in or the DVI cable.

Call tech support and if they can't help :) set up exchange. New monitor and new DVI cable. If they ask tell them the monitor and PC were both off before you changed the connections. You never said one way or the other and I don't want to know.

If the new one does the same thing then you may want to try another video card to rule out that possibility.

When you try the new monitor be sure before connecting, PC off, Monitor off, Before changing connectons.

Good day:)

There is a button on front panel to switch input signal mode its the first one from the left after the indicators numbered 1,2,3 and 4. Switch on the Monitor, Press this button once (to select DVI as input signal source), The number 2 indicator should light up instead of 1 now. Now switch of monitor and switch both PC and Monitor back on. your DVI should work.

After making connections, PC off, Monitor OFF, the monitor should automatically recognize the DVI source Light #2 as Lord Nemesis said. If not something may be wrong, try tech support exchange.

I have the same problem... I found a workaround. If I plug both the VGA and the DVI cables in, my laptop recognizes all connections. Then I Function-F8 to the little LCD monitor icon.

It's not perfect, but I can use the monitor through DVI. Which has a significant quality boost.
