E2014H, converter, HDMI switcher, input timing not supported

Question

Hi,

I have eMachines E644G laptop (= AMD Radeon HD 6310) attached to a Dell E2014H monitor via HDMI cable and HDMI to DVI-D connector, and it works fine, no problems here.

But I need to rearrange my setup and connect laptop to monitor through HDMI switcher. Not sure about the exact model, it's a VConn 4 to 1 HDMI device with 2K\4K\3D support (identified as SyncMaster B2230H by the system, though no connection to Samsung). Never had a problem with it until now. Upon plugging laptop in it, monitor says "input timing not supported... switch to 1600x900 @ 60Hz", even though it's the very same resolution I've switched it to.

At first, I thought HDMI switcher is the problem, but interestingly enough if I attach HDMI to VGA converter to its output and connect the thing to VGA port of the same monitor it works and outputs native resolution. The image understandably is a bit softer, so I'd like to connect it directly to DVI port. Tried multiple HDMI cables and HDMI-DVI cable but no luck -- it outputs all resolutions, like 1440x900, even some resolutions monitor doesn't suppose to support such as 1920x1080, but NOT its native resolution.

Very confusing setup. You need to simplify to verify that the monitor itself is functioning. If this configuration below works at 1600x900 60Hz, the monitor is not at fault.
Laptop HDMI out --> HDMI to DVI cable --> E2014H DVI in

The fault has to lie with the switcher or converters.

Following setup does work, no problem:

Laptop HDMI out --> HDMI to DVI cable --> E2014H DVI in

And even this works:

Laptop HDMI out --> HDMI switcher > HDMI to VGA converter --> VGA cable --> E2014H VGA in

But for some reason not this one (at least not at native resolution):

Laptop HDMI out --> HDMI switcher --> HDMI to DVI cable --> E2014H DVI in

I'd thought that switcher is the problem, but it works when signal converted to VGA. But it's not a monitor fault either way most likely.

Just trying to figure out why exactly monitor has problems with input timing when signal sent through HDMI-DVI cable from HDMI switcher specifically at 1600x900 @ 60Hz (it doesn't have any problems with other resolutions).

Not sure. You might check the manufacturer of the switcher to see if they also have a user to user Forum. Then you could ask another switcher user if they also had this issue.
