DP (DisplayPort) daisy chaining can only be done if the monitor has a DP out port. You cannot daisy chain from DP/mDP to HDMI, VGA, DVI, or USB.
The P4317Q does not have a DP out port. It has the following IN ports = HDMI/MHL 1, HDMI/MHL 2, mDP, DP, VGA
The only stipulation concerning DP 1.2 is that the video card DP/mDP out ports must support DP 1.2 to get the resolution of 3840x2160 60Hz. A video card that does not can only do 3840x2160 30Hz.
The Gigabyte GB-BSi3-6100 has two video out ports = mDP, HDMI
To support four monitors in a daisy chain off of the Gigabyte GB-BSi3-6100 mDP out port, you will need to purchase monitors that have DP in port and DP out port. Like the U2414H pictured below. #3 DP in, #4 mDP in,#5 DP out
So, I just need to get a different computer and put in a graphics card that can handle 4 out. I had a feeling it would not work, but I had a backup use for the gigabyte.
In theory, that would give you three monitors connected to the Gigabyte GB-BSi3-6100 mDP out. Then a fourth monitor connected to the Gigabyte GB-BSi3-6100 HDMI out.
Gigabyte GB-BSi3-6100 mDP out --> mDP to HDMI Multi-Monitor Splitter --> HDMI 1 --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> Monitor 1 HDMI in HDMI 2 --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> Monitor 2 HDMI in HDMI 3 --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> Monitor 2 HDMI in
Gigabyte GB-BSi3-6100 HDMI out --> HDMI to HDMI cable Monitor 4 HDMI in
Of course that is on the assumption that the Gigabyte GB-BSi3-6100 can actually drive four monitors.
Or a different computer and a video card that has four DP (DisplayPort).
In reference to the miniDisplayPort. does it only support mdp to dp? I am currently trying a mdp to mdp cable and it doesn't seem to work. the mdp to dp works fine. please advise. thank you!
I do not fully understand your question. "I am currently trying a mdp to mdp cable" From what device (P4317Q) ? to what device?
Explain in detail your entire setup = * To what computer model is the monitor? attached? * What video card/GPU is in the computer? * What video out ports are on the video card/GPU or computer? * List all monitor cabling attached to the computer and the ports they are using

Can you recommend a graphics card for this monitor?

ryanq71,
I do not fully understand your question.
"I am currently trying a mdp to mdp cable"
From what device (P4317Q) ? to what device?
Explain in detail your entire setup =
* To what computer model is the monitor? attached?
* What video card/GPU is in the computer?
* What video out ports are on the video card/GPU or computer?
* List all monitor cabling attached to the computer and the ports they are using
