U3219Q, stops working after KVM switch, Windows 10, mac
Dell U3219Q
I have a Windows 10 desktop connected via HDMI and a mac connected via USB-C. Most of the time everything works great. Although every once in a while the screen shuts off for a second or two, once in a while being maybe once a day or three.
I switch between the two computers using the monitors KVM switch probably a dozen times a day. Recently I moved and after setting everything back up, now, maybe once a week when I switch from the mac to windows, the switching fails. The screen goes dark, and nothing else happens. I can't get ANYTHING on the screen, even if I hit the monitor switches. Powering off the monitor doesn't help. I believe the only solution is to disconnect the HDMI cable, and reconnect. And then things will work again. Of course this is a pain, as it isn't easy to get to the HDMI cable, then I have to reposition all my windows. I have a two monitor setup, so unplugging the one monitor forces everything to the other monitor. When this situation happens, DDM (Dell Display Manager) greys out all of the options except Easy Arrange, KVM, and Personalize. But KVM now only has the network option. I believe the monitor is running the latest firmware. Almost immediately after unplugging the HDMI cable, I'll see a message on the monitor that there is no HDMI cable plugged in. I reinsert the HDMI cable and everything works well, until the next time it doesn't.
