Volumes with same barcode

Hi,

We send cloned tapes offsite everyday and insert new tapes, when I tried to insert new tapes i found that there are volumes with same barcode value as the existing tapes.  I'm wonndering if had to change the barcode on them or is a solution.

It is not possible for me to check all the volumes and see if there are any duplicate barcodes.  jukebox configuration is set "barcode reader= yes and match barcdoe reader=yes"

Thanks

Sanar,

NetWorker will not label these tapes within your Auto-changer as the name already exists unless you delete the existing entry (which you do not want to do as the backups on them are still valid). You will have to get a new barcode range and stick these on the actual carts.

You should be able to identify the offending volumes as they should be unlabelled within the jukebox, so take these out until you have new bar codes for them.

Thanks Bill,

If I uncheck the "match barcode label" and label the volumes using label templates, will that work?  I mean does NW recognize tapes  with different volume label names and same barcode as indistinct?

Sanar,

That would work in NetWorker, but the media management is again a manual process aand the 2 volumes can get confusing when stored together. As Bill suggested it is better to replace the barcode with a unique one.
