N2248X-ON fiber connection

Hi Community,

I'm troubleshooting an issue with a fiber connection between an external party and a local N2248X-ON. The switch is on firmware v6.7.1.1.A01 and the SFP appears ok. We have tested with a second SFP giving the same results.

show interfaces tw1/0/1 transceiver detail

Type.............................. SFP
Media............................. 1000BASE-SX
Serial Number..................... ***********
Dell EMC Qualified................ Yes
Data Rate......................... UNKNOWN
Wavelength........................ 850
Receive Power..................... -40.000

The port is configured as an access port and set to auto negotiate. The link shows as down and no lights show on the port.

If I hard code the port speed to a 1000 the link shows as up and the lights show activity. Packet send counters increase but no packets are received.

However the external party I am connecting to insists the speed should be set to auto negotiate. We have confirmed the fiber mode (multi) and wavelength with them thrice. The physical connections have been tested by the DC and confirmed to be ok.

Do you have any tips or suggestions how to further diagnose the issue?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Alfred

Thank you very much for your reply Marco, that is a really good reference.

I don't see any errors but the port does not come up.

Just found the following little nugget tucked away in the N2200 spec sheet Optics section:

*** Auto-negotiation not supported, using 1G optics require manual configuration and all 4x10G SFP+ or 4x25G SFP28 ports to be set to same speed.

Will see if my interconnect will entertain hard coding the speeds.
