Constant IP Conflicts
Hi All! I'm not real sure where to post this question. I'm about at my wits end... I have a Dimension 8400 with a Broadcom netxtreme 57xxGigabit Controller (with all latest drivers). I also have a D-Link DCM-201 Cable Modem. I do not have a router or any other computers linked up. I am always getting this error message ...
The system detected an address conflict for IP address xxxxxxxxxxx with the system having network hardware address xxxxxxxxxxxx . Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.
When this happens, I loose my internet. I have to unplug the modem, wait for an eternity to plug it back in then keep rebooting until the connection goes through. I have ran the Diagnostics that came with the BACS... The only time I can "make" it do this is is when I run the Diagnostics. Its only AFTER the listed test run that the error comes up... doesn't make any sense. I'm sure I don't have something set right and my cable company and ISP are not helping in anyway... unfortunatlely, they are my only hi-speed providers and I would rather pull out my teeth than to go back to dial up. I do hope someone has some suggestions.
Many thanks for your time and Happy Holidays!

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Well, it's pretty useless without the numbers. If you really feel the need to edit out the numbers, at least leave the first six numbers. Otherwise, this tells me absolutely nothing.

Since you edited out all the numbers in your first post, I now have nothing to compare your ipconfig output with. That's the whole point of this exercise. Without all the numbers it is difficult to help.

I do appreciate your help. I'm not real sure what I need to do. I thought all I needed to do was run the ipconfig /all and post the outcome. Do I need to provide something else? If so, please let me know and I would be more than happy to post it. Thanks again!
This is the latest IP conflict message if that helps any...
The system detected an address conflict for IP address 65.172.249.91 with the system having network hardware address 00:D0:88:04:F3:CD. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.
Edited to add IP conflict message.. its not a smiley face, that's just what appears once I submit the post.

Some other network device, with a MAC address different from yours, is using the same IP address as the one assigned to your from your ISP. Since your IP address is being assigned by your ISPs DHCP server, it appears that someone on your ISPs network has assigned themselves the same a static IP address that is the same as is being assigned to you. Have you tried contacting your ISP about this problem?

Do you always get the same IP address after unplugging the modem and waiting for a while? Hopefully if you wait long enough you will get a different IP address and, if you don't unplug again, you will keep the same IP address different from the one that is causing the conflict.
