Dell D620 - Problems with Vista and wireless

Question

Running Vista 32-bit on D620, using Intel 3945abg wireless.  When using either the default Vista drivers for the wireless card, the latest published on Dell's site, and the latest from Intel's site, my wireless connection drops out after a period of time.  This happens at home on my WPA-protected network, as well as public hotspots.  Seems the only way to fix is to reboot the machine.  Even doing the Diagnose and Repair doesn't seem to bring the wireless back to life.   The same issue happens when I'm using my Sierra Wireless 595 EVDO card.  Will just drop out.  No reboot necessary to get that one back to life.   Makes me think the problem may lie with Vista and not the wireless cards themselves.  Anyone else having similar issues?  Any suggested fixes? Having exactly same problem on my XPS M1210. Iam running Vista Ultimate 32 and allowing this to manage connection. Would like to be able to switch back to the Dell Wireless WLAN card utility but cannot find how to do this. Brian G West

I ended up doing the following and have been pretty successful in maintaining my wireless connection (knock on wood): - Adjusted power management options for 'maximum performance' for wireless for both battery and ac adapter. - Unchecked box within adapter properties that allows the computer to turn off the card to save power. - Disabled IPv6 - Rolled back to the drivers that came with Vista for my wireless card. Some of the steps may be overkill, but I have had a hard time finding anything concrete online with regard to fixing the issue.

Tried your suggestions. What appears to have worked was removing the current new drivers and installing Intel version 10.6.0.29. Since then I have had a continuing connection. Regards Brian G West
