Dimension 2400 - Upgrade Drivers

My I-Pod was working great until today.  I called Apple Customer Service (ACS) and they suggested that I upgrade to Microsoft XP Service Pack 2 to solve my problem.  I did so, but this did not work.  I called ACS again and they suggested that I upgrade the universal serial bus controllers.  Right now, per my device manager, I have one USB Enhance 2.0 Host Controller and three regular USB Universal Host Controllers.  ACS also recommended that I find out where on my computer the USB connectors are.  I think that I have two in front and four in back, but I don't know which are which.  I'm trying tried to install my I-Pod on my compter (for the fifth time today), my computer did not seem to recognize it.  I assume that is why ACS thought that there was something wrong with my drivers.

Does any other USB device work?

No, everything is fine.  It sees the I-Pod as a removable storage device which it is.  Explore thru the folders and you can drop and drag files onto it.

Yes, a Canon camera works (meaning, I can download images from the camera to the computer via a USB cable).  Plus, I tried to upgrade the drivers and my computer system indicated that I have the most advanced ones, so an upgrade was not necessary.  In addition, my computer shows that there is some removable storage called an F-drive.  However, it does not recognize it as an IPOD.  At this point, I'm thinking that it is an IPOD problem, but before I return to the Apple Store I want to eliminate any ideas that it might be associated with my Dell Dimension 2400.  Any other suggestions?  Thank you!

Thank you for your help so far; I really appreciate it.  However, I don't know what you mean by exploring thru the folders and dropping and dragging files onto it.   I can't even get the IPOD to properly reboot.  It just keeps attempting to do so (for two hours on end), but without ever finishing that task.   That's why I think that my computer is doing the right thing (there are no viruses, it's running at its normal speed, other attachments work, etc.), but that the IPOD is not giving up the correct information for rebooting and why I should take it back to the Apple Store.

If you right click the drive, one of the options will be to "Explore" which will show all the main folders on the device.

I tried as you suggested, but I still have the same problem of the IPOD trying to reboot itself (for hours on end).  It appears as if the connection is there (an F:drive shows up as removable storage) but that my computer does not recognize it as an IPOD.  Does this seem to be a computer or IPOD problem?

Seems like an IPod issue.  Unistall the Apple software and reinstall it.
