I have not made any changes. I think there's a simple way to enable/disable the Bluetooth and I just don't remember how to do it. I did check the bios and it's activated.

I have a Studio XPS running Windows 7.

Hi Am.dsmgs,

Thank you for your reply. Please try the steps mentioned below for enabling Bluetooth on your computer.

Click the Start button, and then click "Run" or click the search box at the bottom of the Start menu. Type "devmgmt.msc," omitting the quotation marks, and press "Enter." Windows displays the Device Manager.

Click the "+" sign or triangle next to "Bluetooth" or "Bluetooth Radios." Look for a device called "Dell 355 Bluetooth Adapter" or similar. Right-click the Bluetooth adapter, and select "Enable" to use the Bluetooth adapter.

The link below  has steps for connecting to a bluetooth device from your Dell Computer in Windows 7.

I ran the devmgmt.msc but  the Bluetooth icon does not appear? I have Bluetooth, I've used it with phones.

Studio XPS 1645

Service Tag:   <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>

I have used the Bluetooth option to communicate with a blackberry prior. The adaptor is internal.

am.dsmgs,

Please continue with Babita.

Places to look to see if your Bluetooth Connection is enabled

Click on start, in search type

bttray

Hit enter. This will put the bluetooth icon in the system tray, near the clock.

Bluetooth can be enabled/disabled there.

The Bluetooth is enabled in the Bios. I even disabled it and rebooted and then enabled it and rebooted. The symbol periodically illuminates when the laptop is booting up but does not stay lit (or become enabled).

The bttray suggestion did not work at all.

Isn't there a simple way to turn Bluetooth on/off?

am.dsmgs,

Right click on the Bluetooth Icon in the system tray, near the clock, left click, show Bluetooth devices.

You should see a list of Bluetooth Devices.

Right click on the Bluetooth devices that are not used and if your iPhone is listed remove it.

Click on add device. Make sure your bluetooth is turn on in your iPhone. Once you see the iPhone on the computer, click on it. You should see the pairing code. You may have to click on your computer's name on the iPhone to get them both to connect. You should then get a message on your iPhone that the pairing number, please confirm.

Ok, we've made significant progress. I have the Bluetooth emblem, I can see it in various applications. However, it won't connect to my iphone5. Curiously, my phone says it's connected but when I go to the bluetooth screen it tells me it has an issue. I click Troubleshoot and it tells me it needs drivers. Then it goes thru that process and I get a little window that says installing drivers then it changes to Drivers Not Installed and the Bluetooth window says No Drivers Available?

I've also done the Troubleshoot in the Control Panel and it tells me Bluetooth Peripheral Device Doesn't Have A Driver and it says Not Fixed and has a red X listed twice.

I've done that a number of times. A window pops up that says Installing Software for this device. Then after a few seconds it says Software Installation Not Successful.  HELP?

am.dsmgs,

Some phones give a red x in the device manager. I don't have this issue with the iPhone 3GS on my Dell XPS L501x or on an Alienware system. Maybe Babita has a suggestion
