Error message 630

The modem worked fine on my recent trip but the last time I used the laptop was to organize pictures with Picture It.  After a while I gave up when the error of an unstable system appeared.  Today I could not get online and the error message 630 came up.  Everything is hooked up fine.  The cd/dvd drive has a problem also but I would like to fix the modem first.  Any ideas.  I have been through the help site but when investigate came up I got another error message.

The last time I had a problem with this laptop, an Inspiron 2500 the techs had me take it all apart to no avail and I ended up sending the whole thing back which I wanted to do in the first place.
