Can you provide a little more info? Your internet connection (example: DSL, Cable, Dialup), who is your ISP, what computer model you have, what hardware you are using to connect. Also, what steps did you take when you reinstalled XP and are all drivers correctly installed? Check Device Manager for the hardware info and look for any yellow exclamation points next to listed hardware.
Computer is WindowsXp Dimension 8200 Series.Pentium 4 256 MB PC800RDRam. I am using a dial up provider (cybertrails ). Hardware? As for the steps for installing ( remember I am computer illiterate)! Put the disk in followed the on screen instructions. As for the disk drivers, installed that but Im not real sure if it was installed properly it was more complicated. I checked the Device Manager there are no exclamation points. Everything has a positive sign before them.
I must have done something wrong in the installation process of the drivers...... :( ?????
Thank you again micmaxe for your prompt responses.... wbw...
It sounds like you have installed everything correctly. Have you already configured a dialup connection? If so, you may need to change a few settings to establish a connection. You can find the dialup network connection settings
here. The information is for Windows 95/98 but should be the same for XP.
Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Network Connections, right click your Dialup Connection and select properties, click the Networking tab and verify Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) is installed and checked, if this has been verified, click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) to highlight and click the properties button, verify Obtain an IP address is selcted, select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter the correct information from the linked page, click the Advanced button and verify Use default gateway on remote network and Use IP header compression are both checked, click OK.
I verified everthing from your last message. Windows xp is a little different. Everything looks right. Could I have not checked or unchecked something in Windows installation? I am so frustrated! I have talked to 4 people from Dell support in the last 2 weeks on the phone. I have 2 emails from Dell support.
Your information has been more useful , than anyone elses. I really do appreciate the time you have taken to help me. I am just stumped....
If you have any more suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
