Latitude D820 drops wireless connection

I've got a Latitude D820 that for some reason can't keep a wireless LAN connection..it keeps disconnecting me. It doesnt give me any error..I just cant connect to the Internet or any network resource...

Does anyone know where I can get a firmware update for my WLAN card?

Thanks
Tim

Normally there are not firmware updateds for wireless cards.  There, are, however, firmeware updates for routers.  Have tried changing the channel that your router uses in an attempt to minimize  interference from other wireless devices?  Which router do you have?

Which wireless network adapter is installed in your D-820?

I'm not thinking it has anything to do with a router coz it happens on any network I go to. The laptop will connect to the Internet, I'll be able to view pages without a problem, then all of a sudden when I got to click onto another page, it wont load. Then no pages load.... until I reboot. Then it will work correctly for a little and then go back to not working ....

Have you tried the latest drivers from the Intel web site?  I recall lots of problems being solved by the latest drivers.   See the following forum search (just be aware of the dates of the messages, as the latest version of the drivers was released sometime in November):

Definatley not the router. I have the same issue with a D820 and a D620 and i have seen it on another D820. All Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG cards. It drops the connection after 5 minutes. Seems worse to me when i use remote desktop. I actually have to reboot to get it to work again. I thought it was the Intel Pro/Wireless application so i removed it to use just the built-in windows wifi and i still have the same issue. I have tried 3 routers. Current one is a D-link DIR-625. I have not noticed the issue on my corporate wifi network. But will test further tomorrow. When i does crash if i try to turn off the wifi using the switch on the side nothing happens. No disconnect sound. When i had the intel software loaded and it crashed, i try to connect again and i get a "problem applying profile error". If i bring up a command prompt and run ipconfig, it hangs and does not display ip info. It has done this both with WPA on and off.

Thank you. Latest drivers from Intel work. Dell should really update their drivers.

Hi this is nuttifeetfirst,

I have the same issue, every 10 minutes wireless connection goes down and not only that, all the computers connected wirelessely on the same network also drop. When I wire my D820 to the router all is well.
Have been in touch with dell support over the issue, and they say it is a system fault in Vista and are looking for a patch to fix the problem. Therefore it is not the drivers or hardware that is the problem as for those 10 minutes all is well, then it is possible we wait for a solution, unless someone has the answer.

The problem in this thread has been solved.  You should start a new thread rather than reply to a thread that has already solved the problem.  Please not that there are several long threads in this forum that have dealt extensively with this problem for specific Intel Wireless adapters running under Vista.  Perhaps you should consult those threads first.

i thank you for the reply Steve, however for us here in portugal the problem is just begining. I have read nearly all the threads and tried many and still get the same situation. latest drivers from intel have also been used, again the same result. Dell here in Portugal are trying to find a patch to fix the issue, however as yet nothing. All Dell will say at this stage is it is a system problem and not a driver issue or for that matter hardware. I have two other Dell laptops with the same wireless 3495 intel pro running Windows XP with no issues. for your info my system is Vista Business 32 bit.

To be so uppity and condescending with your post Steve you aren't much help. Considering your tone toward the other poster it seems you could have posted a link to that your so proud of.
