No internet connection. Local networking only
I cannot connect to the internet with my Dell laptops. My wife and I both have the Dell Inspiron 15. My is model number 3542. I have upgraded to a Linksys router, WRT1900ACDS. Neither of our computers will connect to the internet. They will connect to the router but provide local networking only. Interestingly, I can logon as a guest and have no problem getting to the internet. I also have no problem with my iphone, ipad, or HP laptop using Vista. I have upgraded all drivers on my computer. What can the problem and resolution be for the Dell wifi network adaptor?

I've had a similar problem with my Inspiron for about a year. My IP4 was disabled, while IP6 was okay - I could get to some sites, but not many. I came up with a little batch file which corrected the problem. The one line file "netsh int ip reset" fixed the Internet problem, though I had to restart the computer after running the batch file. But now Microsoft has "updated" my Windows 10 this past Monday, and that batch file no longer works.

Hi BToole,
Are you still having this issue with the Internet? And when you state "guest", is this through the router's guest SSID, or a guest account on the laptop?
If this is related to a guest account on the computer and that's what is working, can you please tell me what wifi card and OS your system is using?
Best regards,
Brad

Thanks for all the help. I believe I have solved the problem. But to answer your question I was using the "Guest" logon for the router. I found someone else had a similar problem using Bit defender and ther firewall wa cas\using the problem. I am using PC Matic Supere Shield on the two computers. When I turned it off, I could logon. I have requested a solution from PC Matic.
