Problem with wired Network Connection on Latitude E6400

Hi there,

i have a little Problem with the wired Network Connection on my Latitude E6400.

Sometimes i have to deactivate and reactivate it before it works.

OS is Windows XP Pro SP3 and the driver is 9.52.20.0

Is there any Hints to solve this Problem?

Thanks

Stefan

I just installed Vista Business, tested it for 4 hours, same effekt.

30% of the Systemstarts i have to deactivate and reactivate the network connection manually.

And i had another effekt on both, XP and Vista.

When a iPod 5 Gen. is plugged in the Notebook wont start.

I think it´s time for a working Bios and a working Intel Matrix Driver.

What is the boot order in your BIOS?  Also, what are the USB settings configured for?

For the network problem, have you already tried (re)installing the latest driver?  Have you run the diagnostics?

Hi!

I had the nearly the same problem, with XP and Windows7. When I unplugged the network cable and plugged it in again, it stayed with 'not connected'.

Even disabling the NIC didn't help. Only rebooting, which was a little bit annoying.

Finally I gave the driver directly from Intel a try and guess what? For the moment, it seems to be better.

Hopefully, that'll help.

Yes - I would like to know the answer as well.  I have a relatively new Latitude e6400 with this issue.  It's been giving me fits for the last few weeks.  Now, if I plug in, everyone around me (on the same network segment, network switch, etc.) is dropped from the network.  That is, my network interface appears to have a physical problem that affects other network users.

This is a serious issue for me.  I can use the wireless as a backup.  It doesn't appear to be affected, but I don't have any hard evidence either way of anyone else being affected.  Unfortunately, I don't have wireless access everywhere.

I have 2 issues w/ the networking on the e6400

I'm having issues w/ the intel 82567LM  in XP.  The device has a yellow exclamation point next to it.
I cannot get it working.
When I tried to update the driver for it w/ the dell download the machine just froze up and had to be restarted.

Also, the Intel 5100 wireless card will not connect at "N" to a wireless router - I've tried both an Apple and Nortel access point.
I've seen other people having the same issues w/ this card regardless of whether it is installed in a Dell or HP.
When I disable the "N" mode, it connects perfectly.  However, now this functions as a "G" card.
Is there a fix for this?

Any ideas?

Thanks

S.

Hi,

with my new E6400 (windows 7 professional) I had similar problem: lan was dead ("no connection / no cable") after wake up from standby or hibernation and sometimes even after a reboot. No problems with WLAN, but I want to use the wired connection whenever possible. Deactivation and reactivation of the lan adapter and removing and inserting the cable usually reestablished the connection. Doable, but annoying. New drivers from the Dell website or fiddeling with IP adresses / DHCP didn't improve matters. Then I noticed the status LEDs on my DSL router & switch, which happens to sit next to my desk (it supports fast ethernet but not  Gigabit: They were off in the problem state and only started blinking with a successful reactivation of the adapter. . Not really a networking expert I went through the settings of the adapter and found the speed setting. The adapter was set to automatic negotiation. After setting it to 100Mbit/s Full Duplex everything was FINE, no problems whatsoever for days now (relief!). My hypothesis: After wakeup of the laptop one or both of the partners expected negotioations about connection parameters, which however didn't happen.  Is there somebody knowledgeable in the forum who could comment on that? Anyway, for me the problem is solved.

Greetings, H.

Have you identified this problem yet, I'm seeing this issue on two diffrent E6400's with XP SP3 installed as well. I'm going to try a BIOS upgrade to see if this works. I hope it's not a Nvidia chipset issue.

I'm having the same problem. I've tried setting it to full duplex 100mb and it only helps in synchronizing the clock. But when the system goes to sleep and come back, it can't synchronize. I have to reboot to get it working again.  Did they ever come up with a solution to this problem? Also, when I try to browse using Internet Explorer, I keep getting "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Is this problem also related?

Hi,

Did you try changing the power settings on that network card when you changed it to full duplex?

> Device Manager

> right click on the network card listing

> select properties

> click on the Advanced tab

There should be an option that allows Windows to shut down the card to preserve power.  Uncheck that box and see if it resolves the synchronization issue.

To better help me troubleshoot this issue please right click on my Dell Todd username and send me a private message with the Dell Service Tag of your Latitude E6400.   Please keep all troubleshooting discussions here on this thread so that others can see what is discussed.

Thank you,

Todd

Hi,

If you're running XP on that system then I think you need Intel 825xx Gigabit Platform LAN Network Device driver Version 10.0.6.0, A03.  INTEL_825XX-GIGABIT-PLATFORM_A03_R290989.exe

Try that driver and let me know if it works.  Please make sure to delete any currently listed drivers for the Intel Gigabit Ethernet card in Device Manager prior to installing this.

Thank you,

Todd
