Wireless connection constantly dropped....

Hi, I have a relatively new Dell Inspiron 6000 with an internal wireless card. The problem is that once I connect to the network and have excellent strength, about every 15 minutes or so, the computer seems to want to refresh or renew the wireless connection, and it drops the current connection and then renews it. Why would this be happening and what can I do to fix it? I'm on the college network so I know its not a problem with the network seeing as how the person sitting next to me never loses his connection. Thanks.

Is this occurring when you are running on battery?

Have you checked the power management settings for the card?

I had this same problem for a few weeks when i left it connected over night it would disconnect and i would have to turn the wireless off then back on before it would even say it had located a network.  I dont know what i did or didnt do but a few weeks ago it stopped doing it and have been problem free (with wireless) for since then.

I attribute the soultion to the wireless radio just needed to be broken in (please dont correct me on this i realize that it most likely is not the situation but that is what appeared to happen)

If its the 2200bg, try the 8.0.12.9000 drivers.

I have the same drop out problems, where do you get the 8.0.12.9000 drivers?

Right now I'm using the Intel 9.0.2.31 drivers but no better than the original.

You should be able to find them on the archives on Intel's site. If not, I can zip them up and post them on the net somewhere. I've got an old CD.

This problem is normaly caused by the windows firewall even if you have disabled the windows firewall some features remain enabled go to control panel click on firewall click on the advanced tab then untick all the check boxes I am certain this will fix your problem

I love repeating the same thing over and over again...

driver problem. Cisco power management protocol is not functioning correctly in Intel's drivers.

I have been using the  8.0.12.9000 (the only stable version) drivers for my Intel 2200 BG card with no problems.  That is until NOW!  I've just installed the newest version of Ad-Aware SE Personal.  It's Build 1.06r1 if you're interested.  At any rate, when I try to update my definitions after firing up Ad-Aware, I get a lovely BSOD.  It's a "DRIVER_IRQ_IS_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" message concerning w22n51.sys.  If I'm not mistaken, the w22n51.sys file is part of my 2200BG driver.  Well, now I can either upgrade the driver and expect problems or just forget about updating my Ad-Aware definitions file.  Neither of these options apeal to me so here's my question:

Can anyone recomend a good card to replace the 2200BG?  I want a mini-pci card that works nicely with Linux (I dual boot).

Check and make sure your w22n51.sys file version is 8.0.12.9000. I've had no problems with Adaware, matter of fact running an update for the same version now just to check.
