5060, P2419H, sleep issue

This PC? if yes what HDMI here, there are none on base machine

5060 what case is this, MT? always post what case first, then what HDMI jack is there and how many.

are you running 2 monitors at the same time?,  please tell what you have , ALL there. first.

like the post linked and folks asked what video card or port are you using (desktops can be ANYTHING)

this PC has 2 DP (are you using adaptors here)_ and many option GPU ports, not stated, here.

using KVM are you?

but then you say windows does not see the unplug, how would you know that with only 1 monitor?

the sleep modes are complex. and for sure times the many different video cable connections but this HDMI.

is your cable just a cable only, no converters in it,  or DRM fooling devices in the line?

We can not see all things plugged in to your Desktop nor inside.

can you elaborate your  system  and do no use others posts to say yours is the same, most times it is not the same, (parts added or not there)

windows 10 64bit.

all drivers for HDMI are fresh, if Dell , then dell if using other brands cards, for HDMI the there fresh 64bit driver. from them , right? (nvidia, ATI, etc)

When PC wakes from sleep it sends those signals to the Monitor (the PC is master, the mon is slaved)

if the Driver is bad or (even cable) or the PC is confused on which monitor is active, then this can fail.

how long is the HDMI cable? 10 meters or  short.

is the monitor set correctly, (there is auto  port mode or  fixed , use fixed? to HDMI) in the monitors menu.

HDMI can fail for many reasons (even if sound features fails, or microphones and more)

even the main chipset drivers wrong,  (old) Dell drivers. those.

when you connect the monitor

the cable has special wake pins.

one pin is power, that goes to the monitors, eDID chip,

this chip is the monitor ID chip, and if  wakes up, it sends the answer (and is hot swap certified) to the PC.

the PC sees this ACT and wakes up, (the driver does that  and passes that to the OS and the OS wakes up)

as the other poster asked (old post link) asking and begging, for them to power on the monitor all ways.

to see if the monitor it self can start the wake up event.

the monitor has its own power supply and can wake up the eDID chip too,

the PC can also wake a monitor, up, say you do, mouse or  keyboard wake up then the OS tells the HDMI driver to wake up the monitor, and the driver then activates the eDID chip, using pin 19 on the cable HDMI

VGA cards use Sync to wake up but not HDMI, HDMI is all digital controlled.. end to end.

my guess  is this post is about only the cable right?

and only HOT PLUG HDMI failures, am I correct? so far?

HOT PLUG does work using Pin 19 to start the vent.

you will need special tools to find out if , the eDID chip did or  did not wake up, ( I have.monitorinfoview.exe) free

and can see if the chip works, right,

other tools to see if the GPU , card /chip driver, works right.

and a volt meter on pin19 if dead, no monitor can do hot plug (plugging in just  the cable)

pins 18 is power to the eDID chip (for hot plugging)

and pin 19 is the hotplug handshake pins

and i2c pins are the data pair lines.

HOT plug diagnosis takes hard work and tools or using spare parts.

OTHER monitors fail on this PC, does a better HDMI cable work (shorter) and or double shielded.

older monitors may have bugs in hot plug and some even have bad edid data, use the viewer above to see it.

hot plug is a complex topic! (topic 2)

if you google this , it's like endless, for sure running 2 or more monitors.(same time) unstated.

last issues with hotplug is ground loops. (fought this my whole career, even complex MiL systems)

make sure the monitor has 3 AC pins not cut this..., (round is ground) and the  wall jack is grounded too.

and the PC and the monitor must use the same AC wall  JACK or you can In fact gain (bad)  a Ground loop event, in some homes jack 1 wall is on different Breaker or even different power panel and GROUNDS.

the hot plug mode must be fully supported in the PC and the monitor, some are NOT.(old)

the cable must  not be missing pins 18 or 19 , period. (end to end period) {ohm it out to 0 ohms in hand}

Pin 18 is 5vdc, 55mA. and this cause a dead monitor (in deep power off mode) to wake up the eDID chip.

Pin 19 is the hot plug pin. (talking pin,comms for this)

one other cause of bad grounds is any coax cables (shields grounded ) connected to the PC.

like cable TV or some CCTV cams to a video capture card, (ADC) or there odd things plugged in to PC of ANY kind unstated here or on either post. tell all thing wired to  PC, and win. we win and you, even photos (OMG)

HDMI signals are very immune to ground loops or the nasty noise created by these events, but not HOTPLUG.

HOT plug uses early connect ground pins (mechanics) and is a crude technology for this event. and can fail.

even in the best of cases can fail....

also if you shuffle over that dry carpet(winter) in say plastic shoes, grab the HDMI cable and jam it in

the 6000 volts on your hand to cable will in fact blow the HDMI chip to (H3!!) boom , craters in silicon, can demo this to you. so hot plugging IS CUTE but not with out RISK FROM ESD !

but do touch hand to metal first and ESD goes (byebye) if home has ground at all some don't.

OK, we have OptiPlex 5060s in the Small Form Factor case, with the optional HDMI connection installed (this is an option on the Dell website when you configure the PC before ordering). Graphics is the onboard Intel 630 running the latest driver from Dell, drivers direct from the Intel site don't support the Dell hardware IDs. We have also installed the driver for the monitors. We run 3 monitors, 2 out of the display ports using straight displayport cables, and 1 HDMI using a straight HDMI cable. I know the PCs are capable of doing this because they work quite happily for a while, and this is a supported configuration by Dell. Everything is plugged in using the supplied cables which have an earth wire in them (we are in the UK and have the full 3 pin plug layout). If I remove the HDMI cable from the monitor, it comes up with a message saying No HDMI Cable, and if I plug the cable back in the monitor says No signal from your device and goes to sleep, even though Windows reports having 3 monitors available. On a reboot there is no signal sent to the display, but Windows still believes it has 3 displays. If I unplug the screen and reboot, Windows still thinks there is a 3rd screen. I do wonder about the additional HDMI port on the machine, it is a simple add on port that plugs into the mother board.

We’re having the exact same issue with HDMI port on the 5060 and P2429H.Tried so many drivers etc but nothing fixes it. 5050's with the same monitors work fine.

We're having the same issue with the onboard HDMI port not waking up, except it's on all of our Optiplex 7060 sff machines. The Windows power settings are to power off displays after 2 hours, after that happens, the only option to wake up the HDMI port is a full computer restart.

Updating to the latest Intel UHD (8/14/2019) doesn't resolve the issue.

Try Disabling the S4 and S5 States in the BIOS. I have had some newer 7060 SFF PCs do some weirdness with that setting enabled and two monitors plugged in. I updated the BIOS to the latest and that didn't work as well. The Setting I mentioned seems to be working

I had the same problem with two Dell monitors, one would always connect/disconnect when they go to sleep mode (every few seconds you could hear that sound when you plugin-in some device). And when I get back to my PC, open windows and programs would be opened on the same monitor, not the way I left them on both monitors.

Disabling "Deepsleep" mode in BIOS as you suggested here solved that problem, and now my monitors work as expected

So once again, thank you. 

Same issue here but Dell support helped me to find a very easy work around.

The monitors were setup to auto-scan the input sources - with this setting they wouldn't wake up when their computers did - they only way to wake the monitors up was to press one of the menu buttons or switch the monitor off and on again. 

The super easy solution from Dell Support was to change the monitor settings like so;

Input Source -> Auto Select -> Off.

That's it.  I hope this works for the rest of you   

all bleeding edge stuff, 3 monitors, sleep and omg hotswap ( The 3 Musketeers not)

one more things,,k47million hits on good just for sleep.  ,  imagine the (wo)man power lost for just this. waste.

The HDMI port has a hot swap pin, and on many a PC, GPU card, cables and monitors do not support his feature, hotswap (hw/sw). (or is failing for 2 reasons, HW bad or SW drivers WRONG or BUGGY)

A KNOWN FACT THAT> (google and learn) sleep and Hotswap,  problems.  endless, topic , YAH.

Hot plug is not as robust as many thing, IS NOT,  yes set the monitors to fixed port mode not auto.  OSD settings.

any hot swap can fail too, if and ESD event (you all charged up with electrons "zap"

not having all 4 devices, monitor 1,2,3, and PC on one AC power feed will invite the horrors of GROUND loops.,.

do not use separate power AC feeds ,just one.

learn to that HDMI ports have   latch up features, if you zap the port (ESD) the port crowbars and goes off line.

until all power AC is removed (all)..  (it's a feature  this, no blown up chip, dig?)

All hot-swapping has risks. learn that first.. all do. (ESD is #1 risk now and forever as is lightning.)

To avoid ESD touch metal on PC first the touch other things, simple and works. ( lowers risk huge)

good post and now we know the drivers do not support this deep state. BINGO. very good, testing btw....

Use he KISS principle... use only simple sleep states IF AT ALL..

and if windows (you) have MS driver updates in windows update turned on,  the next day it can fail. turn that off.

works then the new drivers next day kill sleep modes. how fun is that? you tell me. (on a world scale, wow)

Thank you for your solution. With input source toggle to off, my monitor can wake up from sleep/hibernation.

that is  monitor problem not PC.

all monitors go dead (power saver) when the inputs are dead , some monitors have 3 ports

so is monitor with bad autos scans.. bad firmware in that monitor. a fact.. that.

the auto scan is dead, in that monitor and only that one.  all mine work or id dump it.

some set the monitor to wrong port , that too is wrong.  if auto works that is wrong too.

the auto just scans the ports locking for sync that is there, and is, if that fails the monitor is defective in my book.

I have some Dell OptiPlex 3040 computers that are having this issue.

Where do I go within the BIOS to turn off the S5 S4  in the BIOS?

Same problem here.
The screen is black, the CD can open, accept CD but the screen remains black.
Lots of articles from DELL on this problem, and it seems no solution.
