Customize OptiPlex 7070 with RX5500 XT

This is almost exactly the same as the 3650 which requires power supply to be OUTSIDE the case and have an adapter to convert EPS12v  24 pin to 8 pin.

Hi, I know this question is old but I recommended that you should try it on your own, don't listen to those guy that say it won't work because of this and that and R series won't work on dell optiflex. Don't just them unless you try it, I have dell optiflex 7010 and they say that rx 580 won't work but when I get a shortest version of 580 and it fit in my case and work perfectly. I use this card with my dell optiflex for 3 years now and it still work like a champ. But you should also upgrade power supply to at least a quality 450w !!!

Short version might work.  You would still need upgraded PSU sitting outside the case.  Bottleneck between CPU and GPU should be checked.  Many Dell Precision's come with more powerful PSU's and would be better suited for the full-size RX 5500 XT.

Are people leaving the new PSU outside the case?

I upgraded to a GTX1650 using the stock PSU.

Yes, an upgraded PSU would have to sit outside the case.

The Optiplex 7070 Spec Sheet has a list of compatible GPU's without having to upgrade PSU.
