dell optiplex 7020 tower plus (2024) CPU upgrade from i7 14700 to i9 14900k
Hi
i have a dell optiplex 7020 tower plus (2024) new version and i want to upgrade my cpu from i7 14700 to i914900k,
i want to know do i need to change my cpu fan and also do i need to change my PSU from 260W to 500W because it has a 260W PSU on it,
and when i changed my cpu from i7 to i9 i keep getting this error in the booting ( heat sink - not detected . chipset alert VR heat sink not detected) i am sure heatsink installed correctly and all the screws are tightend because i didnt get this error with CPU core i7 ,
when upgrade to -k cpu the pc would like to detect a VRM heatsink present which is absent when Dell shipped it with a non-k cpu.
you do not have to upgrade psu if you do not run high power gpu. 260w psu is able to support -k cpu. Optiplex bios does not allow user OC the -k cpu. although a 500w psu is often configured with the -k cpu as a high end amenity.
