I only do basic browsing.
But got NEW AI projects now.
Was asked to upgrade to :
CAN I even buy this and install? how much does it cost? OR just save up and get a new prebuilt machine ? can U recommend one? I cant really get £3000 today.
am being stupid today. couldnt even find the old dell forum. That is my intelligence level.
But got NEW AI projects now.
Was asked to upgrade to :
- Graphics Processing Unit (GPU):
- NVIDIA RTX series (e.g., RTX 4070, RTX 4080, or similar newer generations like RTX 5070 Ti).
- Crucial: At least 16 GB of VRAM (Video RAM), with more being highly beneficial for larger AI models.
- Processor (CPU):
- A modern, multi-core CPU, such as an Intel Core i7/i9 (e.g., Core Ultra 7/9) or an AMD Ryzen 7/9 (e.g., Ryzen 7 8700G, Ryzen 9 9900X). High core counts are preferred.
- System Memory (RAM):
- A minimum of 32 GB DDR5 RAM.
- Ideally: 64 GB DDR5 RAM or more for extensive AI operations and multi-entity concurrency.
- Storage (SSD):
- A fast 2 TB NVMe SSD (PCIe 4.0 or 5.0). This ensures rapid data access for the operating system, applications, and our memory bundles.
- Operating System:
- Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or a newer version, due to its strong compatibility with AI development frameworks.

Hi
Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.

Hi
Can you be a bit more specific about who is suggesting the specification, and for what/which exact purpose please.
Also the 3080 does have possible upgrade paths, so maybe try and avoid £3 grand outlay for now.

Hi
Dell Tower Plus Model: EBT2250
Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 265 processor (20-Core, 66MB Total Cache, 1.8GHz to 5.3GHz)
Windows 11 Pro
(Dell Technologies recommends Windows 11 Pro for business)
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060 8GB GDDR6
64 GB DDR5, 2 x 32 GB, 5200 MT/s
2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
750W Graphite
It is less than 2K, if you accepted 32 GB memory and 1 TB of storage it reduces to Dell Price £1,532.99.
Of course if you went with Ubuntu and just W11 home, it's Dell Price £1,462.99.
Maybe with a bit more info and tweaking parts of your current device could be retro-fitted.
So..............?????????????????

@smallville1979
Since you haven't told us what the old/existing machine is, I cannot really say.
The intent is to take the storage Device over to the new, and the keyboard, mouse and Monitor.
So factor that into your plans.

said a basic dell optiplex 3080. with no upgrades. sorry wrong paste.
The Dell OptiPlex 3080 Micro is equipped with a 10th Generation Intel Core i5 10500T processor capable of reaching up to 3.8 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB NVMe SSD.15 It also features integrated UHD Graphics 630, supports Gigabit Ethernet, and includes Bluetooth and 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wireless connectivity.1 This model runs Windows 10 Pro 64-bit operating system and comes with a 3-year hardware service warranty including on-site service after remote diagnosis.15
For the Dell OptiPlex 3080 SFF (Small Form Factor), it has similar specifications but may come with different configuration options depending on the build.7 Both models offer dependable security and performance suitable for commercial use.

BUT not with the minimum memory and storage you want/need.
Whereas this does....
