Look at this forum's posts. There have been users that have installed 16 GB successfully but the certified maximum is still 8 GB total.

  • Nothing against Dell. I happen to really like their desktop computers, but their specs are often outdated. They say my T3500 maxes out at 12gb (6x2gb sticks). However, I’ve been running 3x4 and 3x2, for a total of 18 for a few years now with no problems. I’ve even seen YouTube videos where people put 6x8gb in successfully. The main limitation I’ve ever heard of is the operating system itself. 32 bit vs 64 bit.

Another user uses 24GB RAM in his 790, max listed spec being 16GB.

I can't recommend it, but this is the generation that some users have been able to exceed RAM specs.:  390/790/990/3010/7010/7020  As for 9010/9020, their max listed RAM is 32GB.  I don't recall if it's been exceeded, the same for the 3020, max listed @ 16GB.  One can always check userbenchmark also.  I don't see 3020 RAM exceeded on userbenchmark.

Remember USFF and notably Micro models often take less RAM.

"The main limitation I’ve ever heard of is the operating system itself. 32 bit vs 64 bit."  Quite true.  32-bit Windows only sees 4GB RAM with 3.5GB useable, as 0.5GB is lost to the system.

With Precision's, RAM can vary by CPU.
