Optiplex 5055, 8AC6D992 white text on red background, top left boot screen

I've had two replacement motherboards put into this machine for various reasons. After the first swap, when the machine boots to the Dell logo, before the boot animation starts, the text "8AC6D992" appears in the upper left corner of the screen, in white text on a red background. It's still appearing after the second swap.

Two different techs (who did the mobo swaps) have said they've never seen this before and have no idea what it means.

Any ideas?

The “8AC6D992” error code you’re seeing on your Dell Optiplex 5055 boot screen is quite unusual. This code typically indicates that the system is in Manufacturing Mode. This mode is used during the manufacturing process to configure and test the system before it is shipped to customers.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

  1. Enter BIOS Setup:

    • Restart your computer.
    • Press F2 immediately after the Dell logo appears to enter the BIOS setup.
  2. Disable Manufacturing Mode:

    • In the BIOS setup, look for an option related to “Manufacturing Mode” or “Service Tag”.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to disable Manufacturing Mode. This might involve entering the correct Service Tag for your system, which can usually be found on a sticker on your computer.
  3. Save and Exit:

    • Save the changes you made in the BIOS and exit.
    • Your system should reboot, and the error message should no longer appear.

I did find this other post: https://www.dell.com/community/Optiplex-Desktops/Optiplex-5055-Trusted-Device-reports-corrupted-BIOS/td-p/7863736, but I'm not seeing any event messages about BIOS corruption.

The machine I see this on works normally* but I see this every time I restart.

*the two Optiplex 5055 systems I have both fail to apply BIOS updates. One of them had this issue earlier which prompted the parts replacement service calls; at least for one update, that seemed to work. But now it's started having the problem again. I wish Dell would figure this out.

I've the same problem, what can I do?

I had a similar experience. What worked for me was going to the BIOS settings (hit F2 as the system boots up), and under the Service Tag section, type in the service tag. If you're not sure what this is, check the bottom of your laptop and look for "ST:"

I also turned off virtualization and intel speedstep in the BIOS settings to help get the fan to calm down, but I'm not sure these steps are necessary for your situation.

@pwason Have you solved the problem? How did you solve it?

Does it ever prompt you to press alt-f when starting up? My 7490 AIO was in manufacturing mode and I pressed alt-f when prompted and it returned to normal. Before that I pressed F2 and entered the service tag number in the BIOS.

This worked for me on a 4 month (new) Inspiron.  The laptop crashed during use and started up in manufacturing mode with a missing service tag.  I entered the tag, rebooted, updated bios and firmware based on recommendation from SupportAssist.  Seems good now - fingers crossed.
