Replacing Optiplex 780 power supply?

I want to replace the power supply on my Optiplex 780 DT with something beefier.  I found the following link....

https://www.dell.com/community/Desktops-General-Read-Only/Optiplex-780-PSU-upgrade/m-p/4421110/highlight/true#M960416

.....in which it was indicated the user could change out his Optiplex with an EPS12V 2.93 psu.  However, looking at the dimensions, an EPS is the same form factor as an ATX, which is 150mm wide.  The 780 DT psu is 125mm wide, with maybe about 5mm to spare before it hits the motherboard. Has anybody had any luck trying the same thing with a bigger power supply on a DT form factor?

THE DT IS NOT ATX , MT IS. This is ATX PSU spec and will not fit, over 700watt it gains over 140mm long. but will not fit your DT at all. a ruler shows that easy. http://www.pcdied.com/PSU/ATXPS2-3.jpg

real atx spec, PSU. timeless.real atx spec, PSU. timeless.

there is PSU that is called FLEX, and might work, IDK,  read up on flex see if it fits and has ATX power jacks.

but I'd bet you the FLEX power will be super weak, in any small case.

the 140mm long case is spec,  240 is max at near 1600watts.  all sold at Newegg.

here is flex at 400watts.

unlike my 790 yours needs the ATX 24 pin mini to micro adapter to plug in to your mobo.

make sure 5vdc rail is 15amps min, some modern PSU do  not go that high.

Does not fit inside the case.

HOWEVER you can remove the power supply and run the wires inside with the PSU outside the case.  The 24 pin power connector IS NOT standard its tiny and needs an adapter.

Its ugly but it works.
