Dell R230 Unsupported DIMMS
I have a dell r230 I tried to upgrade the ram in to its max of 64gb. But putting ram in any of the 4 slots triggers unsupported dimms error. And no post. Ram in: 2x8gb (16) PC4-2666V-ED2-11 HMA81GU7CJR8N-VK to AD 1913 new ram. 4x16gb (64) PC4-2666V-RE1-11 HMA82GR7AFR8N-VK to AC 1909 Installing 1 2 or 4 sticks triggers unsupported DIMM error. Both are pc4 2666 ECC ram. Both old and new is sk hynix Korea. Why doesn't this ram work and can it be made to work? I believe I'm on newest bios if not can someone point me to the bios update link for R230.

Yes. That is correct. R230 only support UDIMM. Please refer below link on details

Update: pretty sure I figured it out but not positive. The new ram sticks are PC4 2666 ECC RDIMM.
The R230 only works with PC4 2666 ECC UDIMM if I'm correct...

Can someone point me to Amazon/eBay/Newegg link for 16gb sticks that work in the r230? I want to max the configuration with 64gb 4x16gb sticks. And clearly can’t find them as I got wrong ones already. Can’t seem to find unregistered ram sticks only registered ones. Also needs to be ECC.
thanks

So this stick should work? same part number as listed on page you linked. Not a dell sold part but actual ram part number matches.

We wouldn't be able to say whether a non-Dell validated part would work or not. That having been said, I wouldn't assume that non-Dell parts don't work, either. I had an R710 with unvalidated memory and hard drives both, but never encountered any issues. It's been my experience that unvalidated memory of the same specs works fine. If you want to test these DIMMs, I'd expect they'd likely work, but we wouldn't be able to tell you that they will.
If you'd like to get in touch with our Sales team, so that you can order validated DIMMs, I'd be happy to help with that. However, I do know that you asked for a 3rd party supplier link.
