Detected drive fault, working drive
Hi all,
Recently I've been working on installing my Poweredge r610 server and I'm getting an error. I've been working on this for hours now but I can't figure out whats causing this.
The error I'm getting says "Fault detected in Drive 2" (same error for drive 3). I've tried 2 different disks and also tried placing them in other slots. These drives are both very new and have pretty much not been used before placing them in the server. I've scanned them with a bunch of tools which both show no errors.
When booting the server the orange flashing ligths become green. It also says it is loading all 3 virtual drives. My raid config utility shows no errors either. The drives are even detected by windows, useable and fast. While booting the lights start flashing orange again. I can still use them without any errors.
Could anyone explain why I'm getting these errors? Thanks in advance!
Please note that I am not a system administrator. I'm a developer who likes working with servers at home 😋

Try updating the system, but the problem is the "two Samsung SSD's and two HDD's I had lying around" ... the controller has very specific requirements of the drives, so you can't expect just any old drive will work. They may, but they may not. The messages will not disappear entirely. The best you can do with those drives is get them to show as online BUT with a non-critical flag/message regarding the drives' state. They simply don't know how to communicate their status to the controller in the way the controller expects.

Hi,
Which controller are you using? Are the drives Dell drives? Are the firmware and drivers up to date? Are there other drives that work in the other slots?

I'm using PERC 6/i Integrated. As for the drives. I'm using two original dell HDD's, two Samsung SSD's and two HDD's I had lying around. The last two are giving me these errors (but work), the others work perfectly fine. I will check for updates.
EDIT: So far I've checked the BIOS and IDRAC. Those are both using the latest version according to https://www.dell.com/support/home/nl/nl/nldhs1/product-support/product/poweredge-r610/drivers

I know this is an old post, but for anyone who is stumbling upon it...
You can indeed clear these errors. You have to do them from the F2 PD CONTROLLER operations screen though, not any of the drive screens.
