install of server 2016 on T320 hangs at 80% copying files

Running server 2012 on a PowerEdge T320. Have latest LCC and iDRAC updates installed but trying to install server 2016 on a new drive stalls at 80% copying files. I have tried installing from DVD and USB, using S/W vendor 2016 and MS Eval versions. Install procedure finally returns msg looking for driver or words to that effect, no error # or indication what driver it needs. Is there a driver pkg I need or????

@DELL-Young E That's what I thought too and tested system. No problem. Instead I boot the system, inserted the 2016 eval disk from MS and ran a clean install from the setup.exe file on the disk. Worked great. Apparently that setup looks at your system, gets the necessary files off your server AND updates from MS and THEN runs the server 2016 install. Before if I just booted from the DVD, it got about 80% in copying files and keep looking for files on the DVD or who knows where, never found them and quit with an error. The install S/W I got from a S/W vendor had problems too coming from a boot from the DVD. It seems the cold boot is the problem vs using the setup.exe file on the DVD. Couldn't find any other info explaining this. Funny thing is, if I selected the core install from a cold boot, IT WORKED, but not the Desktop experience option. No files were listed that the install couldn't find, so not sure where the issues lay. I'll mention this to the S/W vendor as well. Thanks for the help. Looks like the T&E (Trial and error) solution worked again.

Hello,

0x80070017=> This is from MS OS, I see this when a disk has some issue, usually.

What I can tell us is to run diagnostics and see what you might have.

To run Dell Diagnostics, you need to:

  1. Restart your Dell computer.
  2. Press F12 when you see the Dell splash screen on your monitor to open the computer's boot menu.
  3. Select "Boot to Utility Partition" or "Diagnostics" using the arrow keys.
  4. Press the Tab key to highlight "Test System".
  5. Press Enter to continue to 32-bit Diagnostics or choose the "Express Test" option.

Respectfully,

Dell-Young E:  Not a HDD disk issue where I was installing, strictly a driver issue???

Instead I boot the system normally, insert the 2016 eval disk from MS and ran a clean install from the setup.exe file on the disk. Worked great. Apparently that setup looks at your system, gets the necessary files off your server AND updates from MS and THEN runs the server 2016 install.
