PowerEdge 2950 + PowerVault MD3000 Reboot

We have some PowerEdge 2950 Servers running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and a PowerVault MD3000 Direct Attached Storage. The problem is that each server that I connect to the MD3000 starts to reboot without throwing any error messages or kernel panics. It's always the same procedure:

1) I connect the MD3000 to a PowerEdge server

2) I can access the disks and the data for some hours

3) The server starts to do random reboots, sometimes the boot-procedure doesn't even finish

I'm pretty annoyed by this and all I want to do is save the data on the MD3000 to a newer system.

Does anybody know a reason for the random reboots and how I can prevent them?

Thank you in advance

Hello

Does anybody know a reason for the random reboots and how I can prevent them?

There is not a single cause of random reboots. There are many possible issues that can cause the system to shutdown or reboot. You must troubleshoot to find the cause.

PowerVault MD3000 Direct Attached Storage. The problem is that each server that I connect to the MD3000 starts to reboot without throwing any error messages or kernel panics.

Do the servers already have an external SAS controller installed that you are using or are you moving a SAS controller around to each system you connect? Have you checked the system/hardware log in the BMC for messages? Are you sure that the restarts only occur when the MD3000 and SAS controller are installed/connected? Which SAS controller are you using? Is there a reason you need to get the data off of the MD3000? Are you trying to move data off of it because there is an issue with the unit?

Thanks

Hello Daniel,

thank you for your reply.

I'm trying to move the data off because of the issue with the unit.

The hardware log says "A bus fatal error was detected on a component at bus 0 device 6 function 0." and "An OEM diagnostic event has occurred.". The restarts only occur when the MD3000 is connected to the server's SAS controller. I've been trying it with different servers (each with it's own SAS 5/E controller).
